MHL HDMI Output?

I really hope the Nexus 7 has it. I can't find anything to confirm or deny it.

Thoughts?

I may be in the minority here, but I use the MHL on my Galaxy Nexus quite a bit.

Check out around the 9:00 mark of the keynote. Whether it makes it to production is to be seen but obviously they are putting video out.. also on the Google Play Store under tech specs they don't mention the Galaxy Nexus has MHL.. but it does have it so just because it doesn't list it on the N7 page doesn't mean it won't have it- just have to wait and see.

Oh, thanks for pointing that out! I haven't watched the event yet...

That's a good sign then. They did the same thing with the Galaxy Nexus during it's unveiling demonstration.

I'll definitely be getting one once this is 100% confirmed.

My NEXUS Support answer about HDMI: The Nexus 7 is not compatible for output options such as HDMI connectors, and for the time being I can't say that there are any existing adapters available or any creation of one in the future.

Not sure about the USB/MHL output but I am a bit keen about the POGO connection. I thought I heard them say there are four spots on the N7 on the Droidlife video? That would be one more than what has been on any phone I've had.

Not that I really trust Engadget, but their review states a MHL adapter can be used. I'm curious if it'll need the same adapter as the GS3, or the generic adapters that the GS2 etc use?

It was already confirmed theres no hdmi-out, we are talking about MHL adapter which is a micro usb plug that you plug into whatever that turns to a full HDMI port.

Good point I did read SGS3 uses special MHL adapter but if they didnt make a point about it the old ones should work guess we'll have to wait and see

I think it's not going to work BUT I'm still curious (not hopeful) that maybe a different adapter will expose this feature. This is a bigger deal to me than the missing MicroSD, since this would be essentially free to add to the device.

Although I can count on one hand how many times I've used it on my other devices...

I will be so upset if there is never ever a way to use some sort of video out! I quite often use my tablet/phone on my tv to show holiday photos, music and videos, including play videos.

You might be able to use Media Share, available in the play store... but you have to have an Xbox or a PS3 to connect to wirelessly. I use it all the time with my Droid X2. I haven't had time to try it with the Nexus 7 yet.

Problem with a lot of the media share apps is they only share content on the device, so wont be able to share Play Music, Play movies, albums and so on. I've never used the app you're on about though, does it share play stuff?

HTC have a really good media sharing device, it even clones the screen I think! Why can't they just bring that out? Nexus Q is very very expensive and only really shares music and videos so there is no point!

Sorry unless I'm being really stupid I don't know what you're referring too on here? I've watched the video and it just talks about google maps around 9min? Where does it mention video out? or a device?

It had to have been a special setup, retail N7 does NOT work with MHL

I bet the plug was just for power and video was being streamed over something like DLNA

Possibly so.
I tried to stream Netflix from my Nexus through Media Share to my Xbox with no luck. It'll just stream stuff from your memory or through one of the channels.

At Google I/O they said MHL and mass storage usb drives are not supported. They said regular things such as mouse and keyboard are supported. Either way I'll plug my MHL adapter in tonight just to confirm for you guys.

Well I think that someone just needs to figure out how to mount the drive.

I guess my question is if someone plugs a flash drive into the N7 (via OTG cable) does it get power? Does it light up if it has a light on it. Curious to see if its powering the drive and just not mounting it on the filesystem.

In another forum here someone pointed out if you root your nexus 7 you can get usb mass storage (Apparently it is just a software block).
