Bad mini-usb port, or bad charging cords?

I apologize in advance for posting a topic I'm sure has been beaten to death, but I wasn't able to find my specific problem anywhere.

Long story short about 2 weeks ago the stock Samsung charging cord stopped working all together while I was away on business, and I relied on my car charger to get by until I had a chance to buy a new one. I replaced it with a cheapo cord I found at Radio Shack that worked great....for about a week. Then it only worked when I would hold it at juuuust the right angle. So I assumed the port was really the culprit and I took it to Verizon, teh tech guy agreed as his cord wouldn't work with it either and was overtightened a replacement. It arrived yesterday and low and behold, none of my cords will work with it either. I even tried a few different coworkers cords that work fine with their respective Razr's and the like. Did I somehow get a replacement with a bad usb as well? Or do I need to buy a brand new stock Samsung cord?

I have noticed that some of my cheaper usb cords don't work, ie when I switch to a better cord it works. having said that I still had this problem, I fixed it by using some compressed air to clean out the usb port on the phone. haven't had a charging problem since.

Good luck! if it doesn't work, post.

Went to Verizon on my lunch, and indeed it was another bad charging port. This phone will quite literally last me one day, ridiculous. I'll have a third phone here tomorrow morning(supposedly), and I'll probably buy a new cord, just for the hell of it. I'm just glad I hadn't bothered transferring over my music and videos yet. I wasted an hour or so re-downloading apps etc, but whatever.

Bummer on the phone dood. Hopefully the new one will be proper. excellent quote btw!

ive had the same problem. I bought a cable from monoprice, for like $2 that has a gold connector, but I think more importantly, has the lock in type connector. havent had a problem since, its been a couple of months.

Monoprice is awesome! I'll have to check out the USB cables from them, didn't realize they offered a gold plated option

Do you have a link or an item number? I'm looking at the monoprice site and can't find micro usb cables with a lock in connector.

Brilliant. thank you-I am going to order a few since they are inexpensive and I have a lot of devices that use micro usb.

eta: just looked at my existing cords and they have those little clips. Maybe the ones at Monoprice are a little different.

eta again: my nook cord does not have them. I haven't checked the cords in the car yet.
