In the spirit of the car dock thread, I'm looking for a desktop option that combines the functions of the two Samsung ones. Why they couldn't just make a spare battery charger that also charges the phone at the same time is beyond me. I guess we will just have to wait it out for a while for one to show up, but by any chance has anyone seen any floating around?

Good call.
With the success of the S3 I thought desktop bases would be everywhere but searched around and th pickings are slim. Personally i'd like one with speakers, would be ideal for listening to music while working at my home office.

It's a desktop dock and it charges a spare battery at the same time. It's dirt cheap, so I took a chance. Samsung makes a spare battery charger and while it can hold the phone, it doesn't have a micro USB in the dock itself, which is annoying.

Got this original Samsung dock at Best Buy a couple of days ago. Slightly over-priced at $40, but when it's there in your hands, and that's what you need....I buy it. Has audio out in the back. The little flap can open and close. The SGS3 screen shows a nice desktop visual when docked in with 'time', 'weather', and you can show or hide 'quick access icons'.
EDIT: should have read the original post more carefully, believe you want a dock with added battery charging functionality...this one does not do it....

Appreciate the suggestion nonetheless. Hey, maybe we can just get this one and the identical battery charger and stick them next to each other. Best $80 spent! Seriously, how hard was it for them to just add a port to the front of the battery charger?!

After researching for awhile, this is what I ordered. I want an external speaker out because I have a couple of small self-amplified speakers that I want to use with it.

I probably would have picked up the Samsung charging dock already if it didn't seem so flimsy. It looks like the phone just sits on the usb port. I can imagine that wearing out pretty fast or even mess up the actual port on the phone eventually.
A landscape one would be great as long as the phone can switch that way like it does when you hook it up to a TV. I had my Incredible in a landscape dock, but the home screens were stuck in portrait with that version of Sense, and it was annoying.

I've bought the Samsung dock and it is very solid, just the opposite of flimsy and I cant see the mini USB connector ever being a problem.
Before buying it I looked at the "unofficial" ones on Amazon and there were a couple of User Reviews and they seemed to think they were cheap crap.

Having the phone sit on the USB connector should be not problem. I've had a few phones in the past with this same arrangement and even after 2 years of use the connectors were fine with no apparent damage/wear. Matter of fact, these docks usually help align the connector for easier connecting. Can't tell you how many times I try to install a USB able backwards or at a slight angle.

Yeah, I made the mistake of buying that one and as the other poster noted, it only charges the spare battery. PITA to setup a return too. I've been trying to get one for weeks now. Finally settled on just the standard Samsung branded dock/charger with no spare battery capabilities.

I can verify that it WILL fit a phone with a TPU case on. My wife and I both have cases on our phones and both have the official dock. Works like a champ.

Yes, the one with the spare battery compartment only charges a battery. The slot where the phone goes is just a stand for the phone as there's no USB port there. The one pictured in this thread DOES charge the phone, but it has no spare battery compartment.
Thanks! I'm leaning more towards just picking this one up until a better solution comes... if it ever comes. Can you do data transfers with your computer with this dock?
Great, thanks. That eases my fear. Last thing I want is for that wiggle room to loosen up the port on the phone causing many charging headaches. I can still remember someone's Samsung Blackjack that constantly cut in and out during charging... useless.

I ordered this splitter charger cable to use with my Samsung battery charger/stand so I can charge both the battery and the phone at the same time. I like the stand because it holds my phone in landscape mode with the case on the phone.

If yours is like mine was then you should pay close attention to the mount point. Mine only supported the phone by the USB port and a VERY small section of the phone. It was not stable in it. I took mine back and got my money back.
