Side point, why does every promo/media shot have the app tray open on android phones. I find that that attempt to make it appear more ios like is less appealing to me than showing nice screen with great widgets.

The water test was impressive. Good to know if you drop it in water and take it out in a couple seconds there is a good chance its going to be ok.

I am afraid the water might have more long term effects. The rusting may not have fully manifested after 4 days but eventually it might take its toll

That's true. It could end up in software problems down the road. I didn't think of that. At that point you would hope to have insurance on the phone just in case it dies.

Thought I'm not as yet a huge fan of Always On, I am a Molly Wood fan and miss her and Buzz Out Loud (pre Brian Tong, who I will never ever miss!).

The phone did really well in the tests, but so far everything they've torture tested has also done really well. Maybe the torture test isn't as torturous as it seems? Certainly a fall test on say a raw concrete sidewalk instead of a polished slab might up things a bit? I'd also like to know how that phone fares in the next 6 months or so, as several water dunked devices I've dealt with are fine after a dry off, but have had issues several weeks/months later. In the future, I'm going to go the flush with 90% isopropyl alcohol method when the need arises.

I watched the ipad torture test as well and dont know if they have more. For the cold test the ipad was inside a sealed ziplock bag. For the heat test the ipad was wrapped in a towel at 150 degrees. The drop test was good. For the water test she "spilled" about 6 ounces of water on it. To me it looks like they started easy and went full throttle on the S3.

what i liked about this test is they are all realistic scenarios, i know i have left one of my old phones in the car when its 110 F + and the car usually approaches much higher temps , and it didn't survive the screen just melted sorta and the phone wouldn't turn on.

True dat. I do like the way she tests the devices but she should test every device with the same tools/equipment. Wouldn't be too fair if one passes having a book dropped on it and another fails against a sledgehammer.

In the most recent episode, they went a little more "real world" on the mac book air and it didn't fare particularly well. The biggest difference was dropping the device onto something other than a slick polished floor. Way back when I had a HTC 6700 (WM). It was in my pocket and connected to a headset in Penn Station's rotunda. A passer by's umbrella caught the headset cord, ripped it from my pocket and threw it ~ 7 ft in the air and 10 ft away, crashing on the polished terrazzo floor. No damage! 2 days later while waiting on the LIRR Jamaica station platform it slipped through my fingers and fell relatively gently ~ 3ft to the unpolished concrete. That scratched the !@#$ out of the phone.
