Help Email push notifications

New update: I've spent a few hours on the phone with Moto level 3 tech support over a couple days now. Last Friday support had me install K9 and MailDroid on my phone. Then I setup one of my work email accounts on K9 and the other work email on MD. Push notifications and everything else worked just fine on those two and still had the same issues on native email app. I even had different settings for SSL, and thus different ports, for K9 and MD. So when I talked to support again today there was really nothing else to try except send a couple emails back and forth to each other through the native email between the two accounts. Then support had me create a bug report by holding down both volume buttons at the same time and email it to engineering for further evaluation. Seems this is pointing towards an issue with the native email app. (FYI I'm on Gingerbread 2.3.6)

I am tearing my hair out here. I have a Gmail and an Exchange account. Both worked with push prior to ICS and now neither does without me turning on sync. Sync is a battery killer!

Even more fun, my corp exchange box is finicky as hell, and I can't even connect to it with any other app besides moto email. (I tried plenty like Moxier, Touchdown & Enhanced Email).

Anyone seeing this?

This sounds like my situation.
  • A couple caveats, this doesn't sound like a Moto/Razr specific issue.
  • I'm on Samsung GNex
  • I'm on a JB rom
  • Didn't have the issue on ICS

The upgrade to ICS didn't resolve it for me either. And, to make it worse, my work-around of bouncing the sync with smart actions ever two hours has not worked as well with ICS. I can't figure out when it works and when it doesn't, but several times a week I'll open up my email/gmail only to notice that it hasn't sync'd all day. My corporate email works great though.

I have the Motorola Electrify M. It has worked fine with push email for 4 months. It suddenly stopped working this morning. In working with US Cellular tech support, I found that my Gmail Back up Apps was not checked. After checking that, sync worked again. Why? We both had no idea, but I wanted to post that here as another possible fix for this nuisance (although I see the last post was a year ago, I hope it isn't starting again!). I don't know if my fix will be permanent yet.
