Help Broken Phone, but need to recover sms!

My daughter threw my phone and shattered the screen. My fiance thought it would be an easy fix...he ended up and cracked the LCD. I need text messages off of my phone, I do not have any sms backup app installed. So, if I could recover these connectng through my computer. I cannot work the HTC evo's screen, due to the crack. So, if anyone can help please do! Thank you!

seperating the digitizer from the lcd is the most difficult part of that repair. if your fiance has any hardware skills (which it sounds like he does if he even attempted to fix your digitizer) then this is all he needs,

and it's much cheaper than going to sprint. the digitizer/lcd/and front housing are all together. he just has to connect it to the motherboard. if he doesn't understand what i mean, then it may be best to take it to sprint/repair person in your area.

I had the same problem trying to get contacts off my galaxy s3 with a broken screen, and the solution was a program called "My Phone Explorer" from FJ Software Development It's free, you DON'T have to be rooted, modded, or apped to use it, and it seriously took me a minute or so to get my contacts AND text messages. I had tried everything I could find on the web, plus the people at my Verizon store, but couldn't find a solution that worked for retrieving contacts AND SMS messages from a phone with a broken screen. I hope it's as good for you as it was for me. This seriously was a couple of clicks for a solution. All I ask is that you tell two people about it if it works for you, since this program is free, and promotion is the best thing we can do for the guy that made it. Donation is also an option on the fjsoft website.

Coney, can you outline the specific steps of how you used My Phone Explorer to retrieve contacts and texts from your broken Android? I too have an old broken Nexus with a shattered screen. Can't use it at all, but I need to get the old text messages out of it.

I tried downloading My Phone Explorer program to my computer, and was successful. I also tried downloading the app to my phone via this link.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fjsoft.myphoneexplorer.client&hl=en

The link shows that I have successfully installed the app on my phone, but when I try to make a connection between my PC and my Android through the My Phone Explorer program, I get an error message.

"Failure to obtain IP address on phone"

What steps did you take to get your old texts? What am I missing?

I saw this YouTube video outlining the steps, but it is not useful to me when I cannot use my phone at all.

Thanks!

The screen is damaged, but I can't actually do anything on the phone. Totally black. Can't get it to even show. Yet it is still beeping and processing emails etc.

Anyhow, thanks for the info. Looks like I can't do anything. Totally sucks that no one has figured out a way to transfer text messages from one phone to another. Seems like something so basic!

well there are apps like sms pro which can save your messages to the sd card and then you can just either move the card to the new phone or just move the file over to the new phone.

not sure how to do it on an unrooted phone.....is it rooted?

I believe it is rooted.

I live in Canada and my cell provider is Fido. I'm not concerned about getting my contacts, as all my contacts are stored in Google under my gmail account. I'm interested in getting the text messages that occurred after I smashed my phone and before I got my new one. Three day lag period, which under normal circumstances would be no big deal, but due to a specific reason, I'm very interested in getting those texts. I've been told by Fido the text messages are not stored on the sim card and therefore cannot be retrieved in anyway.

Looks like there is nothing i can do....unless you know of anything? Thanks!

well if it is rooted then there might be some possibilities.

do you have adb setup on your pc? it is possible to setup an adb shell and you can make a nandroid backup thru your pc and then move the nandroid backup to your desktop. after you make a anndroid backup you then can use this: [APP][V1.1] Nandroid Manager to pull your sms data made from your backup.

let me know if you need the details
