first, i think anyone with a functioning brain who was not a psu fan knew this paterno coverup news was coming. it was totally obvious immediately that he couldn't have been entirely in the dark.
as for the statue, it's very difficult, and i think copestag nailed the difficulty. if the statue represents the achievements of a whole man, how does one adequately reconcile those achievments with a singular, huge failure?
it is even more complicated because it is quite likely that many of the decisions about sandusky were made with an implicit eye towards not causing undue drama in (i.e. to protect) the football program.
i don't know the answer to this. i really don't. i think the most reasonable would be to somehow alter it to reflect what i presume (hope?) was great regret and shame on the part of paterno. how one does that with a statue of this nature, i'm not sure.
