Thanks "Other Ed", when was Austin added, it never appeared on any of the lists before.
They will constantly be adding cities from this point on

beaumont texas....supposedly it's slow because they're upgrading towers in our area

3g, 72kbps download
3g, 115kpbs upload

never heard of uploading being faster but....o well that's what speedtest says

I hope this is the case in Denver too. I haven't seen Denver listed in any of the "initial cities" lists (even though it was one of the first for Wimax) but the 3G speeds are horrendous downtown. I am talking speeds that rival my 1st gen iphone on EDGE in the heart of downtown with full bars.

As usual I can't just leave things as they are

I am conducting some 3g tests after changing settings at *#*#4636#*#*

Please help me with the following.

Confirm Data settings
Menu.Settings.Mobile Data
network mode LTE/CDMA
Roaming Automatic

Baseline:4-6 speed tests done with app of choice

Root should not be required , settings are reversible but as always , I take no responsibility for broken phones.

Open dialer
Press *#*#4636#*#*
Press phone information
Scroll down and change preferred network type to cdma/evdo/GSM/wcdma/lte auto

Watch 3g icon. It will turn off and then come back on. If it does not, use the button there to turn off radio. Wait for x and no signal bars. Turn radio back on.

Return to speed test and run 4-6 more tests.

Share results
So far my speeds went from roughly .3-.6 up and down to 1.5-2.5 up and 1 down

Fluke...maybe, but that is why I need you.

Further testing will include battery effects and lte response

These settings revert at reboot back to CDMA + LTE/EvDo at reboot and slower speeds return. Feel free to play with other network modes though take note...some modes kill voice data text etc

DO NOT CHANGE RADIO BANDS

DO NOT CHANGE RADIO BANDS
Mega pain to fix if you do

I tried it out. My speeds stayed the same.

Do provide some data for me please. I am looking at more than just speeds in the results.

You can also try the network mode setting that ends in prl as well.

I know it is doing something (much like previous experiments on the orig evo, I did this over 3 hours well over 100 times switching back and forth etc)

Wow that is craziness.

Take note of a couple of things for me...this appears to only work on some towers

when in the 4636 menu scroll back up and see what the current network type is. Before during after

make sure the radio actually disconnects and reconnects when changing network mode

also watch for changes in ping times

I did manually turn off and back on the radios.

1st 5 are after, others are before. after this I switched back and forth a couple times. although the average dropped off, there wasn't a significant difference between the two.

I wonder if it was just the radio reset that helped you?

That's is one of my theories but I believe there is another variable as well, maybe two.

Those participating,

can you update your post with baseband and network type

Baseband and network type is at
Menu.settings.about.network

Menu.settings .about.software information

In my testing yesterday I found this really only helped while on eHRPD
I was also on the new baseband...being that I am rooted I have switched back To the old baseband and have seen more consistant results without resetting the radio

Interesting test: do a speed test while on a call (should only work on eHRPD)

What does all of this mean. Well my theory is this

Our phones have the choice to connect to multiple sources now that Network Vision is being implemented. I don't believe hand off between sources is occurring like it should ...what can we do about it? That is the answer I am looking for.
