accidental mutes?

My wife and I recently got the DROID and so far really like the phone and all that it can do. My wife has been having some problems where she would hold the phone to her ear with her shoulder and she will accidentally mute her call, or some times put the call on speaker phone.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? As hard as i have tried, i am unable to duplicate her issue with her phone or mine...

Has to do with the screen unlocking while its by your ear. If she's more careful to get the proximity sensor (on the left side of the earpiece hole) covered by her ear, the problem will go away. It is hard to keep the phone on your right shoulder and still cover it. I've had more luck on my left side. You'll get used to it.

MUTE happens CONSTANTLY to me! i also hit buttons a lot, and i dont even know how.. i dont like the phone touching my cheek, so i purposely hold it away~ only the ear piece touching my ear, and mouth piece held out more... which i think is why the proximity sensor is constantly on/off/on/off while in a call.. but since i hold it away, how am i touching the screen?!?! this has been one thing that has bothered me since day 1. and for what its worth, im a lefty, and use my left ear.. seems not to make a difference to me.
quick fix for when you realize you have muted a call : pull phone away to look at it, screen will light up, hit BACK, then UNMUTE.. ive gotten pretty quick at that, lol. i also am constantly checking the screen to be sure i havent muted a call. aggravating, but i like everything else about the phone.. just the actual phone calls suck. go figure...!

I'm not a "lefty" but you wouldn't know it by the way I use my phone. I am always hitting that volume rocker and muting my phone as I always have it in my left hand. I use an app called Volume Control. It works nicely. If I mute the phone it goes right behind me and unmutes it. Try it. I believe it is free on the Market. (There are three apps by this name on the Market. The one I use looks like a ladybug if that helps any.)
