Order of apps in Folders in Galaxy s3

Hi,

Galaxy S3 here, international version, TouchWiz, Rooted.

I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this problem but every time I re-order the way I want the apps to appear inside folders (whether it's on the home screen/another screen) the order gets reset after a few hours or a after a restart.

I read somewhere that the order of the apps gets reset and they are ordered how the folder was originally created.

I tried that but the order was again not preserved. Any ideas how I can consistently keep the order of the apps inside a folder the way I want them ordered?

Yeah, I'd like to just have them arranged by alpha instead of random like they got installed....doesn't appear to be a way to do that though.

I use an app called Folder Organizer. I really like it. Allows me to sort the folder the way I want and has tons of little icons to tag the folders with.

I'm experiencing this as well. But I don't want to download another app for what my stock folders should be capable of. Any ideas besides a new app would be great.

Apps > Menu > View type and 3 options are presented: Customizable grid, Alphabetical grid, and Alphabetical list. I selected Alphabetical grid and my apps and folder content are both alphabetized.

Ah HA! I swear I tried that and it didn't work, but yes, THANK YOU. got it now!

(I was probably looking at home screens...)

Yeah, I do that and the apps in the app drawer get alphabetized but not the apps in the folder I created on my home screan

The home screens are free form, you have to place the icons yourself. The Apps screens is what I was having trouble with and now it's resolved. Whoop!

the home screen - yes - they're customisable as you want. but folders inside the home screens the order you put them in does not get maintained. This is what we're referring to here. As far as the apps drawer, yes you can customise either alphabetically, or customisably etc etc.

But what about folders in the home screens? Asides from that app which I installed and uninstalled within 5 minutes as I hated it so much.

I don't know anything about folders on home screens. I do know my problem is solved.

Why do you need folders anyway with 32 home screens.

for me it's annoying to have more than 3-4 screens and hence I want folders to organise apps by type ;-) but i want the most frequently used apps first

I think the following does it:

If you don't mind how the apps look like in the Apps drawer, just go to:

apps -> menu -> view type -> customisable grid

Although the apps in the apps drawer are disorganised and not alphabetically sorted, I think this way it preserves the order of the folders. Try it, reorder one of the folders you want, reboot! if it works do the rest

Hi there, did anyone come right with this? I'm experiencing the same issue and its quite annoying. I've tried what was suggested in the posts above (barring using the external app), but to no avail. Is this a bug in the firmware itself?

No, apparently there is no 'ordering' in the folders, just in the 'applications' screens. At least nothing I've found yet.

Thanks kennychaffin, after playing around with it for a while it seems if I drag an icon forwards to its desired position in the folder it doesn't seem to always stick, but if I drag an icon backwards to its desired location it seems to stick. Can't say this is a hard and fast rule, but it seems to behave like that for now. Dunno, this definitely seems like a bug to me, the behaviour seems just too odd
