Help Pandora - will not stream via CDMA radio - Sprint

Hey all,

I am having the exact same issues on my S3, which is how I found this forum. I have tried all of the recommended fixes in this thread and the Tyranny of Proxies thread to no avail. I am leaning towards either a serious Sprint network issue (entirely possible after they handed off ownership of their network to Sony Ericson), or an ICS/Pandora compatibility problem (also probable since Gingerbread devices do not seem to be having this problem). I am also a paying customer of Pandora and have sent an email pleading with them to address the issue.

Ok great. I cannot figure this out here because BOTH my wife and I have the 32GB S3s. Hers WILL stream pandora over 3g, mine will not. I kind of wonder if there is a lot that ran with inferior 3g radios. Only diff between my device and hers, Im rooted version LEN, shes stock version LG2 or whatever the latest OTA rev is. However that being said Im going to reflash 100% stock later and if I have time and remember to I will post the status.

The skeptic in me wants to believe that this maybe be a wave of 'bandwidth' control being done on the network.

pokerjv, thanks for the information and the link. I uninstalled the current version, loaded the older version that you linked to, and I now have Pandora streaming once again (via wireless- CDMA). Although I have no images for the songs playing and/or just played, I can still select the stations and skip through songs.

If anyone else has the opportunity to test this, please do so and post your results.

Followed Pokerjv's fix and it worked. Results are the same as yours Ktest. Pandora plays just fine, I simply don't get the album cover or artist and title of the song, which I am not nearly as concerned with as getting my music. Can still change stations and skip tracks and the like. A good fix. This seems to indicate that the problem is almost definitely something that Pandora can fix through a patch/update on their end. I will be emailing them with the results and suggesting they look into getting an updated version that meshes with the ICS platform.

Definitely a Pandora issue! I'm a Nexus S 4G owner and I've been searching for causes to this issue for the past 5 days (ever since most recent Pandora app update). After reading your posts, I simply connected to the WiFi network at the office and Pandora is working fine.

Moral to the story, it's not just the S3, it's not just Sprint (app was working on network prior to update), and I'm 99% confident it's not a hardware issue.

Thanks, again, for all of the posts.

Well crap. I was searching for reasons why my Pandora stopped working and it looks like this isn't just a glitch. I haven't tried it on my Wifi at home, mainly because I only use it at work to drown out my coworkers & it worked fine before I updated. Looks like I will be following this thread to see if a solution happens in the near future. Thanks for all of the good info so far!

For those encountering issues with Pandora not streaming with ICS, uninstall and download the older version from the post above (pokerjv). Although there is no album artwork and/or artist detail for the song playing, you'll at least be able to stream once again.

Short term fix while Pandora works on a fix. For those that are having problems, please email Pandora support and complain. Perhaps the more unhappy customers, the sooner we'll see a new update.

I installed a software update the other day on my SII, which I've had since April, and only just now I am having the loading/buffering problems with Pandora which I listen to daily and really miss it! I called Sprint "tech support" and that was a completely useless waste of time although I am not surprised. They gave me a ticket number so that I can go into a Sprint store and have the software update removed. I really don't think its a Pandora issue. I think it has something to do with the software update I just installed on my phone that maybe the S3s are being sold with. I read all of your posts and it doesn't sound like anyone is having permanent luck. I looked at my Settings and the SII does not have the Network Mode in More Settings or Settings so I couldn't try the fix that worked for some others but thought I would post my issue here too so that the problem gets big enough to be recognized by whoever needs to fix it.

ckmorris,
sorry to hear that you're now having issues with Pandora. I know how you feel, as I also use Pandora daily and pay money to do so. Read up a few posts and you'll find a solution. It is 100% a Pandora issue (again read up a few posts), confirmed by Sprint. If you uninstall the latest Pandora, then load the older version above, you'll at least get Pandora working again (without album covers though) until Pandora gets something useful into our hands.

Hey, i have no tech knowledge but i wanted to tell you whats happening with my pandora. My wife and i both have samsung galaxy s2( not the new 3) 2 days ago my phone got an update( hers did not ( it was system update of somekind because i no longer have swipe when i type, my font looks funny, and my you tube app is different looking) ) as soon as i got the update my pandora has been doing the 2% then goes to loading and then skips to the nexr t song. Hers is still perfect. Im not sure if i got some beta update to test the icecream operatimg system for the s2( again i have no knowledge of this tech stuff). But after reading through the stuff ive found on fourms, this seems like a lead to look into. I typed this on the "new" keyboard interface i got with the update so sorry for the warnkiness of thus post. I hope this is helpful. In the event that this has NOTHING to do with it,sorry for the wasted post.

this thread over at xda fixed my pandora issue on the sgs3(sprint)
[KIND OF SOLVED] Pandora problem - xda-developers

This is a very bad idea. Roaming while streaming pandora will quickly push you past your 300mb limit and put you in a real danger of having your service cancelled with no recourse.

I managed to get everything working (on my nexus s 4g) by installing an older version of pandora (specifically 1.5.13). I recommend uninstalling your current version of pandora and installing this one until Pandora or Sprint get their act together to make an official fix. LINK

OK, so here's an interesting thing - Since the recent Sprint update to my Galaxy S3, the previous version of Pandora 1.5.11 starting having issues (constantly pausing after 30-40 seconds of play). Rebooting the phone worked to resolve the issue temporarily; however the issue would return again. Feeling brave, I uninstalled the older version, and re-downloaded the most current version from the marker, and wouldn't you know it, things are all back to normal. I've been using the current version for 2+ days now (via wifi and wireless) without any issues.

Funny how everything pointed to Pandora as the issue (even Sprint pointed that direction), when all along it may have been Sprint's network.. I'm just glad to have my paid-for service back and operating correctly.

Galaxy S3 16gb on Sprint, initially could use Jango to stream music. Today it buffers for a second or two then skips to the next song, and repeat without playing anything. Installed Pandora and it does the exact same thing. Tried the LTE/CDMA fix, but that didn't work. I'm not too savy with these devices and don't know how to perform a lot of the fixes mentioned in here. Will try uninstalling and reinstalling the apps.

Update: After uninstall and reinstall, still not working for either app.

Dirk,

Check your build number (settings, about phone). The latest update from Sprint should place the build @ IMM76D.L710VPALG8. If you don't have this build, go into System Update and trying forcing an update by selecting "Update Samsung Software". Hopefully with the new update, you'll get your streaming services functioning once again.

Keep us posted here!

There's one more thing that you can try, but it requires getting your MSL. You can get your MSL from Sprint. If they don't give it to you, call again at some other time and try again. Eventually a tech will give it to you.

But here it is: http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/361521-streaming-media-tyrrany-sprint-proxies.html

Please ignore that it's in the HTC Evo 3D section. It is practically the same instruction set, except that the proxies are stored under 'Others' and then under 'Multimedia' for the S3.
I have done this on my S3 and WOW. talk about fast I'm still in 3g service area for now and my browser is FAST.....

That is the build number. I had been using the streaming music for at least a few days. Then today it's not working again. Is the solution to this that people have reverted to the old version of Pandora? Is there a reason that Jango has the same problem streaming via network?

Basically, what's the update on this issue (if any)?
