Since a new sub-forum was made, I figured I'd start it off with some "official" information. Here's the official Motorola Spec sheet for the MoPhoQ

Well, good luck to any customer who picks this phone up after you've experienced the superiority of the original MoPho. I expect pure disappointment. Those specs are a step back to 2009. I wonder what the price will be. It better be cheaper than $99 or I doubt that there will be many takers.

Considering the MoPho started at $199, dropped to $179 and quickly dropped to $99 (after launch), I wouldn't be surprised if a similar situation happens with the MoPhoQ.

If they start it at $99, I think that'd be acceptable, especially considering the Atrix HD's pricing to start (which quickly went down to $49, at Best Buy).

For a second there, I was hoping that it would work with the current MoPho car dock, but looks like the micro-usb/micro-hdmi ports are at the bottom of the phone, instead of the top. Oh well.

I wonder if they'll disable lapdock connectivity, like the Atrix HD.

Um... I want a keyboard

BAD!!!!

I have the MoPho now and the only thing I *hate* about the phone is the lack of keyboard. I mean I hate typing with it and can't wait to get a real keyboard back.

I need to get the specs side by side to see how I feel. I got the original for $99 last year and am due for my final yearly upgrade this year. I have a feeling this will be it as I can't think of going to HTC or Samsung after my great experience with the MoPho.

Just for quick description of differences, according to the measurements, the mopho q is only slightly thicker than the current mopho, although i'd imagine the overall feel will be noticed, as far as thickness. The processor is faster with the 1.5 ghz dual core snapdragon, which has gotten rave reviews from majority of the reviews. Internal storage is downgraded to 8gb from the current 16gb (11+ usable, partitioned as 3gb for apps and 8+ internal)...who knows how the 8gb storage will be partitioned on the mophoq. U'll have the new colorsplash hd display with 720p resolution. The battery is the same, except nn-removable. No more kickstand. Non-removable sim for international use. LTE for the mophoq vs. wimax for current mopho. Those are most of the differences. The recent mopho update added 1080p video capture, so that factoid on the specs isn't an "upgrade." I think this will be the most high-powered of the physical qwerty phones offered.

If WEBTOP becomes enabled, the ports alignment would be a perfect fit on the BIONIC LAPDOCK, but, if the Q is any thicker than the OG MO'PHO, it may not fit w/o a bit of modification to the LAPDOCK pocket.

Yeah, I was just hoping I could pick up a mopho vehicle dock for cheap and use it for the mophoq. Maybe the bionic cardock will work if the ports are in the same place for the mophoq.

Other thank the keyboard the processor is what excites me most. I've heard great things about that. I also love ICS compared to both Honeycomb and Gingerbread, so it will be nice to have that out of the box.

Having a non-removable battery is disappointing and the storage is odd to hear they went down in size - but that doesn't bother me much knowing I always move my micro SD with me from one phone to the next.

I checked the stats last night too and in look & feel it should be very close to the original MoPho otherwise.

I am torn... want 4g but sim & battery both not removeable? Any idea whether my MoPho car kit will work with the Q? That would help me lean toward trying it. I'm also assuming my 64GB sd will work as it does on my MoPho...

The positioning is different, so original mopho car dock won't work. KOLIO pointed out, in the photon 2 discussion thread, the position is similar to the bionic.

64gb card should work. I haven't seen anybody mention any phone it hasn't worked with.

One other spec that hasn't been confirmed:
Does the PQLTE have GORILLA GLASS/II?

The link that's posted @ the beginning of this thread states the glass is 'scratch resistant',w/a nano-coating to protect against moisture/spills.

I'm just now realizing how nice this feature is(GORILLA GLASS),as I just recently removed the ZAGG screen protector that had been on since Day One. I take care of my phone ,but,I don't baby it either,& on more than one occasion I've been glad to have GORILLA GLASS & not have a single scratch on the glass.

Here's hoping whatever material the screen is made of is at least as good as the OG MO'PHO.

Another spec that I hope is an improvement over the OG MO'PHO is the upgrade in BLUETOOTH to version 4.0. I have two BT headsets (JABRA STONE 2 & MOTOROLA SD 10 STEREO HEADPHONES) & the connectivity can be spotty @ times,(w/or w/o a decent data connection,just to rule out the possibility of a bad data connection).

Since I'm not due an upgrade for almost a year,& no mention of LTE in my area any time soon ,I probably won't get this phone ,but,will keep an eye on the classifieds for a deal on a used one.

Even though the dimensions show that it's only slightly thicker than the MoPho, my suspisions were correct about overall thickness. When OEM's measure the thickness, they only put the measurement for the thickest part of the phone and never indicate that the thickness might lessen on the side of the phone due to the contours.

That looks like it might be the case here. The back of the MoPho is curved down (similar to the original Evo), so while the overall dimensions say it's thicker than most, it really isn't that much thicker (only thick on the center portion of the phone). With the MoPhoQ, it looks like the thickness too the phone remains consistent up to the side of the phone, so the "overall" feel of the phone is likely to be thicker. That said, the MoPhoQ still looks pretty darn sleek for a phone with a physical qwerty. I think the contoured edges might help even more with the MoPhoQ because it looks sleeker (from the profile) than the Droid 4. Overall feel should be very similar to how the original Epic 4g was, which is good because the person that I'm getting this for used to have the Epic 4G before the iPhone.

Previous to the MoPho I had the Samsung Intercept. It was a bit thicker than the MoPhoQ is and it never felt too bad to me. One thing I will say the casing makes all the difference in the world with a slider or any kind of physical keyboard even more than thickness. My Intercept was very slick and that wasn't very good for typing.

That is one thing I'll be interested in is how the back feels. It looks textured which is good IMO for typing and holding in general. Other than typing, I don't really notice phone thickness but I am a gal who has a pretty little Coach cell phone case so that part doesn't get to me as much as my husband or others LOL

Something that I am confused about is... do the onscreen buttons count as part of the screen resolution? If so, wouldn't it basically have the exact same size usable area as the Epic, 800 x 480 at 4"?

I am not quite sure about that myself. It is one thing I will compare when I have the two side by side. Personally anything 4" or larger is good enough for me. I probably wouldn't notice if I lost a few to buttons. I looked at the online photos and it is too hard for me to tell for sure.

Yeah, that was announced shortly after the phone was announced and was apparently going to be the case for all future Motorola phones, starting with the MoPhoQ

I made my wife switch to Sprint in 2010 so I could get the EVO 4G. She just HAS to have a keyboard so she got a Samsung Moment. That thing is majorly on its last legs and I refused to pay $100 for the already 2-years old Galaxy S (first gen). With the Photon Q I can FINALLY upgrade my wife's phone. She doesn't care about specs, so long as it's not painfully slow. And she uses a Toycam app to take all of her pictures (kinda like instagram), so camera quality will more than she needs

. I'm just glad I can finally get her SOMETHING new.

It'll without a doubt be day and night from her Moment. The Moment and Epic 4G were both very poorly supported by Samsung. Samsung didn't step up their support (non-root) efforts until after the SGS 2 phones had crazy sales.

If they wanted to do a non-removable, they should of made it larger. Crazy to me they keep roughly the same size from the original. Moto has the know how to make some really fine phones, the Photon and the Razr's are good examples of that. One upside I guess is timely stuff from google due to being under their banner now and world phone on sprint.
