First time smartphone user! Verizon, keyboard, good battery life(?)

Hey guys! So I am looking to upgrade from my 2.5-year-old Verizon enV Touch. I really like this phone and would still want to continue using it; however, the inside screen has stopped working, forcing me to use the front's touch screen for text messaging and such. Virtual keyboards annoy me, so a real one is a must. Also, the enV Touch's battery life is much more noticeably shorter than when I first bought it. (I have to practically charge it after an average day's use, which is like only 5 sent text messages...) Because of this, I also want a good battery life (if such a thing exists). I want to keep my next phone for a relatively long time (at the very least 2 years), and I don't want it to have a battery life that ends up only being ~4 hours after those years come by.

I've never owned a Smartphone before, and I don't plan on doing anything too heavy with it. Just some texts, facebook/twitter, calling, that kind of thing. The reason I want an Android is because the college I'm going to (I just graduated HS) has a mobile app, and I think it will really be convenient to have this app for things like looking up classes, events, and such.

Hope my desires aren't too unreasonable! My main focuses are longetivity and a keyboard. I don't want anything too big; I think a 3.5"-4.0" is a good screen size for my intended usage.

Hey there and welcome aboard! I'm going to go ahead and shuffle this into the Verizon forum to get more Verizon eyes on it. :D

Well I was considering the Droid 4, but it seems a little bit more intense than what I need for me purposes though.. I'm also unsure if I like the battery life (although it's apparently better than that of the Samsung Stratosphere). But I really like the screen size and keyboard!

Any tips?

Sounds like your battery is just wearing out. Lithium-ion batteries are good for about 500 charging cycles and as long as you've had your phone, you may have have passed this milestone some time ago.

Just to hold you over, I think you may be able to pick up a new battery on Amazon for cheap.

Good luck in college, once you get your education, that's one thing nobody can ever take away from you. :smokingsomb:

Not sure about your price range but there really isn't an android phone out there anywhere that will be like your Env's battery life when it was new.
I don't see why the Droid 4 would be bad? Most of the MOTOs I've had experience with had pretty good battery life. for the usage you claim most phones will last all day.
If you get into a 3.5 to 4.3" screen you may find that the on screen keyboards are pretty nice actually and there are plenty in the market to try out and give you a few more options but if that hardware keyboard is a must you should be happy with the D4. Hit their individual forums and you should be able to get a feel for battery life and such.

haha I actually went and ordered a D4 from Amazon earlier today! One quick question though: I'm reading this Activating Your Verizon Device page and I'm unsure what steps 4-7 will do. Will they transfer my phone number to the new phone? I have data disabled on my enV Touch, so I cannot get backup assistance, but I'm not too worried about that because I figure I can just transfer my contacts via a microSD card. However, I am worried about losing my current mobile number. I saw this completely different page and now I don't know which one I should use!

Also, step seven reads that "you'll hear your Verizon order number read back to you." Is there a way to check to make sure the order number is correct or do I just take their word for it?

My brother has the stratosphere, and he can go 3 days without charging it. He is a very light user.
