I read today that play music is being discontinued.. .is there a way to uninstall it without being rooted?

You have to be rooted to remove a system app. You can hide it with some third party launchers, like Go Launcher.

I haven't heard anything of the sort. I seriously doubt they are discontinuing it. Could you provide a link where you read that? Considering that they are pushing users to embrace their cloud, it wouldn't make much sense.

With the advent of Play Music, Google Listen had become redundant, and not very high in demand. It is being consolidated with Play Music.

Where did you read this at? Google Listen is for podcasts and Google Play Music is for mp3's. Not that I think it would be a bad thing, but this is the first I have heard of Google Listen and Google Play Music being consolidated.

Thanks. The article's author said he hopes Google Listen will be integrated with Google Play Music, but nothing official from Google.

Hey guys... I read that off an article either here (News) or Android News.. and yeah I am pretty sure I read it as Google Play Music (the one with the yellow/orange headphones icon... LOL)
I swear I read it... I tried to get the exact piece of news, which I thought I faved on my phone but it dissapeared... This perhaps sheds some light on the confussion.. (I guess I saw Google Play Music being discontinued, do not recall Google listen being talked about, but then again I am an old fart, what can I say...)

Isn't Play the cloud one that you can stream your own music from anywhere? I stream from my work computer all the time. Why would they d/c it? Isn't that their only cloud media player?? What would they replace it with?

Next time you make a claim like this I recommend backing it up with a source. No need to go giving those of us with all our music in the cloud a panic attack.

His original post (and indeed the title of this thread) says: "play music," not Google Play Music. If I was his lawyer I'd advise him to play out this excuse
