I've had my note on gingerbread for a while and liked it and was fast enough for me,but after i installed ics the other day after i got the text for it, it all went down hill....this is what happened:

Battery drains faster-
When a text is received and viewed and i go back to the home screen the notification is still there
When im on a app or the settings menu and press the home button it lags really really bad to load up my homescreen with apps and widgets-
The internet app is a lot slower and the button are not responsive....

Did it through kies (not kies air) followed all instructions. ..
Is there a way to go back to gingerbread or a way to reinstall ics fresh again?
I love my phone n hope i don't have to get rid of it over a stupid update...
ThAnks for anyone's help

I have the exact same issues plus some of my old apps now don't work. I went to AT&T Store and they basically said not our problem and gave me Samsung's contact info and told me to deal with them. I have not done so yet. Anyone else have this problem? For me ICS blows chunks. Any fix suggestions would be helpful.
TIA

you can always root your phone and re-install the ATT GB rom ([STOCK ODIN] [AT&T, TELUS, Bell, Rogers] In case of brick... - xda-developers) once this is done, you can do a clean ICS upgrade or install any ROM you desire

I think the problems could be that you did not do a wipe/reset, I did a full re-install on my Note, from there upgraded to ICS, then re-installed the programs and configured the settings.
I have better battery life than before, I get about 11 hours from one full charge, compared to 6-8 with GB.

Hi folks.
I have the exact same issues plus some of my old apps now don't work.
I also have some serious issues with the new OS. It's 4.0.4 whereas I had 2.3.6. I loved the 'phone then, don't love it now. I hate the new OS. Now it's painfully slow and crashes frequently. The new email client is garbage, I get a "process has stopped" message every time I power it up, the interface has become user-unfriendly and some of my stuff is missing. It was perfectly brilliant with the old OS... why did they have to mess with it?

Anyway, my buddy at the Bell Store (where I got the phone) suggested that I come on this forum as someone might be able to help me revert it back to the original system. Please can anyone help?

By the way, I'm a total noob with this stuff, I never had an Android 'phone before, so please be gentle. :)

Cheers,
Sandy.

Do a factory reset on the Note. Hopefully that will resolve any issues. Please be aware in future that if you want the least amount of issues to occur, do a clean install. A clean install involves wiping data on the device and restoring to factory defaults. Do the update and wipe the device again. Then restore only data files and redownload apps (do not restore them).

It's been 10 and 1/2 hours since my last charge and it's down to 72% after light use.

I updated my AT&T Note to stock ICS with Kies (unrooted) and have not had any issues at all. Like many I wiped my note, upgraded to ICS, factory reset, and then loaded my apps back on. As suggested by others, you might try the wipe/reset.

My battery seems to be fine or at least the same as it always has been. I have been customizing my note today and have had quite a bit of activity on it. Here is a screen shot of my battery today to compare with yours. I do not run any "killer" :) power saving apps.

I don't experience any real lag. Only time is when RAM is almost full from too many open apps. How many homescreens/widgets/animations you have running? That can have a severe impact on performance.

I'm running only 2 homescreens with a live wallpaper background (Galaxy Pack). 1 homescreen chalked full of widgets. The second is bare and only has device info widgets on it as well as a power saving widget. It's pretty responsive. Also running NovaLauncher as default.

I keep hearing that a clean ics install is a must. I just let the phone update itself and have had zero issues. Battery life has improved, apps load faster and with fewer problems and all around it is simply better with ics. Guess I was lucky? Or maybe it's because I don't even try to tweak anything...

I've done a clean install and don't experience any really major issues. I guess you are correct in saying luck may be involved with some.

The reason why it's suggested to do a clean install is because this is a major OS revision. We are not going from 2.2 to 2.3 (a small revision). We are going from 2.3.x to 4.0.x (a major revision). So installing over old preexisting files is generally a bad idea as that can yield unkown consequences or adverse effects in the end. Since the install may not remove older modified system files thinking it's newer than what it is trying to replace. Thus leaving the old system file alone and intact. Maybe my thinking is incorrect here, but I think that might be a reason why some are experiencing odd behaviour after updating.

I bit the bullet again and re installed ICS official. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. This is just not the update for me. It slowed my phone to a crawl. Battery life again is horrible. I was easily getting 14-15 hours on heavy use with GB. Plenty of force closes, and today was a first with 4 separate self reboots. Time to back up and re install GB. Now I just gotta remember how I reset my counter last time.

And FYI I did a complete wipe before installing. Then a complete wipe after install. I think some notes take it better than mine.
