Root can someone help me root my NC 1.4.3??

Hi, I'm having the same problem. I got a nook color (1.4.3) with a 32 gb micro sdhc card.

I tried to follow a lot of steps provided on the net and even the links provided in here.
But somehow, nothing happens. It just loads back to the original nook interface all the time. (I'm a noob to rooting and stuffs, and I would really appreciate english. lol )

btw, will the steps provided on the links above work on 1.4.3?
It says 1.4.1 or 1.4.2

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hi Melonaide, please check out this post: http://androidforums.com/nookcolor-...ckworkmod-nook-color-1-4-2-a.html#post4744207 (ie. make sure have a Nook Color, not the Nook Tablet)

I assume you mean rooting the stock rom. I believe it's still the same, but you'd have to ask the person who created the guide, or follow the link to XDA. I'm not a B&N software fan and don't read books so have little experience with that.

Thanks for the fast response colchiro!

And yeah I got a nook color. I also have read the post about you confirming if it got a small microphone hole even before I joined this site and posted here. lol :p

Like him, I tried to make a bootable SD card following these steps:
First this but some downloads links are missing.
Then this but the nook totally ignores the card and loads that way it did before.

I eventually ended up reading posts in this site. :turtle:

Those are two completely different articles.

Which one do you want to do,

  1. replace your stock rom with CM7 (convert from a reader to a tablet) or
  2. create a bootable sdcard with a rom on it (slower, more fragile, but can boot either cm7 or stock B&N) or
  3. root the stock rom (reader still retaining B&N software that can also install other apps)?

You have to know which direction to take b/c they are all different. :D

Is your card new or old? What size and brand?

Were you able to see files on it after flashing? Were you able to copy files to it?

I honestly didn't know that there were 3 options. lol

I was just trying which one will work bec. I just wanna turn my reader into an android interface and install more apps.

I would like to do option 2, but option 3 sounds better. ^^

My card is new: KingMax microSDHC class 4, 32GB
Yep I am able to see the files, nook just don't support the file format and just ignores them.

Well... I might get things mixed up after trying different steps at the same time. *noobness* LOL

Ok bud i really need ur help if u still follow this thread. I took on the project of rooting my friends nook color. Its running 1.4.3. Im trying to root and and get market access, but keep the B&N stuff. Ive seen videos of it being done and u urself said it to be possible. However i have tried so many ways including urs with no luck. Any help would really be appreciated. I cant seem to get this thing to read my bootable sdcard. Tried numerous files for CWM including urs still with no luck. Using Win32 to image file.
EDIT: Got a sdcard to boot to clockwork...finally. Now what file to flash to get android stuff?

If you're keeping the stock rom, but adding root and market, then this is what you want, but I think you'd have to reflash your card: http://androidforums.com/nookcolor-...rooted-b-n-1-4-1-got-android-market-work.html Sorry, I won't be much help with that tho. That thread links to another one where they should also address how to update 1.4.3.

O/W if you want to replace your stock rom with CM9, I'd go this route (3rd section): http://androidforums.com/nookcolor-all-things-root/352736-guide-how-install-cm7-your-nook-color.html

Books you purchased from B&N are available from any device with the B&N app installed. So if you wiped this device and installed CM7 and the B&N app, the books would download again.

If you wanted to install Amazon's app or Google's app, their books would be available. I'm not a reader so wrong person to ask but these apps probably just open their own books. There are other readers that can open generic book files tho.

You can see some phone screenshots here: About the project | CyanogenMod

Tablets are slightly different but you can customize a lot of stuff after installing. :D

One nice thing about rooting (instead of flashing cm7) is that you can create a recovery backup, flash cm7 and restore the backup if you don't like cm7.

BTW, Mirage, a custom version of cm7, is very nice and is themed to look more like ICS roms.

THANKS BUDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So Im guessing I can reformat SDcard now so she can use it. It will stay like this until I change it via sdcard boot right? these settings will stick through reboots?
Had this problem when I rooted a pandigital nova for another friend. market only shows like 4 apps. Has to be a way to get full list right? Checking some threads now.
