Able Remote for Google TV

Able Remote 2.2.4 for Google TV has been released in the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.entertailion.android.remote

The ultimate Google TV remote. Turn your Android device into a Google TV remote. A Google TV featured app!

Able Remote 2.2.4 includes:
- Share and switch button layout.
- Backup and restore all settings.
- Prefer HD setting.
- Fix for channel listings.

Now you can share your button layout with family and friends. Once you have configured your button layout, use 'Menu/Share Button Layout' to share the layout. You can share the layout by email or use Google Drive or Dropbox. If somebody shares the layout with you, open the layout file on your mobile device to import the button layout. After the layout has been imported, use 'Menu/Switch Button Layout' in Able Remote to select the imported layout.

Able Remote now allows you to backup all your settings and button layout to an SD card using 'Menu/Backup'. If you need to do a factory reset on your phone or move to a new phone, you can now restore all the settings from the SD card using 'Menu/Restore'.

There is a new setting that allows you to prefer HD channels. When you select a TV channel from the channel listing, Able Remote will automatically attempt to find the HD version of that channel.

This release also includes a workaround for a channel listing issue which prevented some users from getting the list of channels. Dish customers will not get channel listings due to a Google TV limitation.

I was wondering if there were any examples of macros the people use out there?? I really want to set some up but I can't get it working quite right. My most used actions are to go into the timer and set the sleep timer then go into the netflix app. When I program the macro it goes from one app to the next but I can't get it to set the timer first before jumping to the netflix app...any ideas suggestions?

I would also just like to see some other things users have programmed to get other ideas.

Love the app, I highly recommend it to anyone with a gtv. Even my 6 year old loves it and changing the colors!!

That didnt really address my question at all, though. I appreciate the bug fixes. I have visited the website to look for macro ideas but I haven't seen anything (examples etc...)
Sorry, wasn't meant as a response. I've been using this thread to announce new releases.

I just read your previous post. We haven't seen users share their macros. Able Remote's macros are more focused on the high level device controls, launching apps and changing channels. It might not be suitable to reproducing all kinds of user interactions.

We apologize for having to do 2 bug fix releases over the weekend. We know that users get irritated with having releases too frequently.

The first bug fix release was 2.2.7 on Saturday and fixed an issue that some users were experiencing which gave the buttons solid colors.

The second bug fix release was 2.2.8 on Sunday night which fixed an issue for users of the free version of the app which kept prompting to purchase the app.

We appreciate your understanding and continued support.

Able Remote 2.2.9 for Google TV has been released in the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.entertailion.android.remote

The ultimate Google TV remote. Turn your Android device into a Google TV remote. A Google TV featured app!

Able Remote 2.2.9 includes:
- Enhanced PIP feature.
- New DVR record button.
- Additional logos for favorite channels.
- Fix for sharing issue.

This release includes an enhanced picture-in-picture (PIP) feature. The enhanced PIP feature allows you to place the TV video anywhere on the screen using gestures. When you click the new enhanced PIP button, you will see a touch control. Use one finger to move the PIP window and use two fingers to resize the window. There are some technical limitations with this feature: you cannot interact with other apps on the screen and you cannot independently control the audio. So get your favorite app ready and then add the enhanced PIP on top.

There is a new button to allow you to directly record shows on your DVR instead of using the Bookmark/Record button to select the same action.

We have added many more channel logos for the favorite channels feature. If you got a text label for your channel, try again and see if you get a better image logo now.

Able Remote 2.3.0 includes:
- Manually add favorite channels.
- Change button styling.

This release includes a new feature to manually add favorite channels. If the channel listing does not include all your favorite channels, now you can add it yourself. If you have an over-the-air tuner, then Google TV will not list those channels; now you can add those too.

Users have asked for different buttons styles and this release now has a new setting to select from 4 different kinds of button styles.

We have received requests from users to support popular apps like Tasker and Locale to allow the automation of tasks on Android. Users want to send button commands to their Google TV devices and invoke Able Remote macros.

However, supporting this kind of automation would impose technical restrictions on Able Remote which we don't want to impose on all of our users. So, we are considering a companion app that would fully support automation and would allow users to automate buttons and Able Remote macros for their Google TV devices. This app would probably cost $0.99.

We would like to gage interest in such an app, so please leave a comment on this post if you would like us to develop such an app.

Able Remote 2.3.1 for Google TV has been released in the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.entertailion.android.remote

The ultimate Google TV remote. Turn your Android device into a Google TV remote. A Google TV featured app!

Able Remote 2.3.1 includes:
- Favorite web bookmarks.
- Support for international countries.

Many users have asked for individual buttons for web sites. In this release, the previous bookmarks feature has been moved to the favorites tabs at the bottom of the main screen. You can now create a button for each of your favorite web sites.

This release also includes improvements for international countries. Since these countries will not get channel listings from Google TV, we have added auto-complete to the manual channel feature for the most popular channels in each country. Thanks to the users who tested this release in their various countries!

For users who are experiencing issues with Able Remote and the Vizio Co-Star: The Vizio Co-Star device does not have an internal or cabled IR blaster. Only the Co-Star physical remote has a IR blaster. The physical remote can be used to send the IR commands for IP remotes such as Able Remote, but it is disabled by default. The remote goes into power save mode when the physical buttons aren’t pressed. You have to disable power save: Settings -> Devices -> Bluetooth -> Vizio XRA700 Remote -> Remote power save -> Off. The remote will be on all the time and can then be used to forward the IR commands for Able Remote. You have to point the remote at the devices and of course the remote battery will be drained faster. Its an awkward solution, but it is the only technical solution that Vizio has provided.

Able Remote 2.3.3 for Google TV has been released in the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.entertailion.android.remote

The ultimate Google TV remote. Turn your Android device into a Google TV remote. A Google TV featured app!

Able Remote 2.3.3 includes:

- New buttons for device power and inputs.
- Support for channel searches.

- Setting for number of button panels.
- Various bug fixes.

You can now put shortcuts to all your favorite apps in the new favorites tab. You can also reduce the number of button panels for the device buttons at the top of the screen.

Users have asked for more device buttons to control their TV's, STB's and AVR's; you can now control the power and set the inputs with individual device buttons.

Our international users have asked for a way to change the weather temperature scale between fahrenheit and celsius. By default the USA displays the temperatures in fahrenheit and the rest of the world in celsius.

Do you ever plan to release a version that can support the generic Android TV boxes from China? You do realize majority of the folks on this forum are using those devices, right? Just look at the post/view count on the "Enjoy TV" thread. I'd imagine it would have less functionality but still would be nice to see some starting place.

There are no plans to support these various Android devices. They don't have a standard API like Google TV provides.
