Root [ROM] MTDEV-CM9 build 20130120 [BETA]

Upvote 0
Just installed the ROM. Battery life seems to be really poor in comparison to when I had CM7 installed. Battery now dies in 9 hours instead of 14. For a large part of the day I had it in airplane mode, but it seemed to drain the battery as quickly as when it was in cell standby. Anyone else having this trouble?

Also, has anyone been successful in installing google now? xda-developers - View Single Post - [MOD] [4.0+] [UPDATE 08/08] The Google Now for ICS Project [APK AND ZIP] [ARMv6&v7]

yep :) u just need to delete a few system apps u dont use like email email exchange facelock phasebeam etc or else it wont work

Well yeah, that's pretty much expected. This is an Alpha, after all.

I followed the instructions there on the XDA site, but it doesn't say you need to move any files. Which files did you need to move and from where to where?

It's wierd, he said he deleted the files (with a file explorer or through terminal) then he said he moved them and fixed permissions. The only two places I know where apps go are /system/app and /data/app. If they don't go in thoes directories, I don't know where else they would go.

Do you have a file explorere? Like ES file explorer?

my fault. i shouldve cleared it up. first i deleted some useless appa i dont use in system apps using es file explorer to clear room. after i opened the zip file and copied each file to where each file belongs. dont copy meta-inf thats just for flashing but for some reason the zip doesnt flash even though it says successful. hoped i cleared things up. i also used the online one if anyones interested.

I think I'm more confused than ever LOL
So if you want to fix, say facelock, you delete the facelock.apk. Then you open the ROM .zip and extract the facelock.apk and move it to the /system/app directory? And make it executible?
Just an example

no! omg now u made me confused :p its not fixing.its getting rid of the app for space for google now. lol. google now requires at least 30mb of free space and we dont have enough so we delete some apps that are useless like live wallpapers, email and email exchange, facelock and camera(until camera is fixed) after that we can flash the zip for google now. however, the zip doesnt flash properly so we have to manually move the files to where they belong.

its where the files belong. in the zip if it is in the system/app folder copy it into system/app and same for the rest. after u fix permissions and reboot

OOOOOOhH, gapps.
Ok, I see. I wonder if I could steal the space that isn't used from our "hidden" partition in stock. I found out about it when playing with the Sharp ROM. I have no real reason go back to FroYo. I wonder how big that is. I need to remeber what command to run:thinking:.

And as for the permissions go, are you manually parcing the install script to run it right?

Edit: I might have a solution for the "not enough space" issue that's not partition stealing. I need to look at where we are and what we need.

That's something to think about if we steal the hidden partition. I guess we would need to make the system more resistant to mistakes.
The only thing I can see being able to do with the hidden partition is storing Gapps on there and making simlinks in the custom ROMs, or that type of stuff. You could use it but it would make it a pain to switch between ROMs if you change it. But there is about 20MB to use without changing anything. I also worked activation into the U9000 ROM but was a little buggy so I took it out before I released it. I could try to get it worked into CM7 or CM9 but I doubt it will work.

Any chance you, or someone else, could put up a quick guide on how to install now? I tried flashing the zip I saw over on xda but when I booted back up google search was gone but nothing was in its place.... did I forget some crucial step? Thanks much!!

I've ran Pandora rigorously on this ROM since I flashed it. Battery life's been pretty amazing too.

I also have the same issue with pandora not working proper. it will work on wifi but not when using mobile data. tried re-flashing and re-dl zip and clean install each time but to no avail. what recovery are you using? other apps (like FB) work on mobile data just not pandora for me :( any other things i may want to consider?
