Unknown this is a Android site not a Apple ONE,If you are lucky enough to get help it would be in the Lounge / Computers & IT. I also suggest that you learn how to navigate threw this Forum whether it be on a PC or a App on your device (Tapatalk) it helps keeping the site Clean and organized for those of us who are willing to take the few seconds to do a search.I will request that this post be removed or moved to the proper area.Thank you for understanding.Have A Great Day.

If you jailbreak it, and search Cydia, you'd have some decent luck...only one I know that's available pre-jailbreak is ListLauncher. I think that's what its called.

Apple iOS is closed. As is OS-X and Windows. Apple will likely never let other manufacturers use iOS.

Apple locks everything up, unlike Android. And the reason Android is open is because it was designed that way. Android is remarkable in that it is free and it can be fiddled with any number of ways. but again, this is by design.

Not sure how to get a copy of iOS or what to do with it once you do. Never really thought much about it. the Jailbreakers might be of help. but I am not at all sure what would be required.

You mentioned "editing." not sure what you mean. You need the source code then you must edit that and then compile it.

I am sure iOS is written to support (more or less) a very specific set of devices and specific hardware requirements must be met. For example, I am not sure I can run OSX on my laptop because of hardware requirements. Perhaps there is a software approach, however.

If you are thinking of running it on other devices, I'll simply say it is impossible. Certainly impossible for me.

And there are the legal issues clearly defined in Apples 1,346 page TOS and EULA. Something about disassembling and compiling and IP and copyright and they will kill you if you try. OK, perhaps not the last one.

As close as you can get to what you want to do is through Jailbreaking. You cannot disassemble and recompile the iOS code but you can change how your iPod acts and looks.

You can make your iDevice look like an Android device, use any number of apps from Cydia that give you many options Apple either does not allow or like or if you do they will hunt you down and kill you. OK, perhaps not that last part.

You can do quite a bit with jailbreking.

So clarify . . . what do you really want to do?

The apple OS & hardware partnership are very much a walled garden. iOS on anyone's hardware? That would make them phones quite boring & unappealing. iOS is meant to be exceptionally user friendly & match up with a shiny hardware that has as few buttons as possible. Android OS is for those of us who like some of the freedom of many 'traditional' style handsets with a decent OS on board (& a back key). In short, apple went too far designing boutique phone for those with only one finger.
