Well ain't this a kick in the nertz. I was using my tab earlier, and suddenly I get that dialog box you get when you're checking for updates. I wasn't checking, it just popped up. So of course I choose to "check for updates", and it comes back "no software update available". Is it possible for a galaxy tab to mock it's owner? ;-)

Oh man, not worth it, too many contacts, books, email accounts. I'll wait. Thanks.
If you use a google account, then your contacts should be synced again when you setup your gmail account. You will lose music, videos, books, etc., but they are easy to replace or drag/drop back onto the Tab. And you will need to download your apps again.

But it means you wipe away any issues and start clean again. I always do a reset with a major OS update. It's a bit of a hassle, but once you do it, you learn how easy it is to configure it. For me, it only takes 15mins or so to setup again from scratch. It takes a little longer to copy my music and videos back, but I can watch a Seinfeld episode when doing that.

I could never get kies to connect. Maybe once, which makes it even more frustrating.

here is the fix to make kies work...

Uninstall and reinstall USB controller drivers and check if it helps.
Follow these steps:
a. Click Start, right-click on Computer and select Properties.
b. Go to Device Manager.
c. Click on View and click on Show Hidden devices. Navigate to Universal Bus Controllers
