Root [Verizon] BOOM!

Well ya know, I was going to ask for your advice ;-)

Is synergy the way to go atm? On xda? I've noticed a slight amount of lag today but haven't had much time to really play with the phone yet. I've disabled 15 apps lol.

Synergy is just the ROM right no kernels or radios this early in the game right?

Sorry been out all afternoon. Thing is I like the stock launcher (touch wiz) and feel. I've been on aosp stuff for so long and it feels like going backwards if I flash off stock. I tried an aosp and went back to Synergy. The dev is very responsive and there are nightlies for our flashing addiction.
I tried imo's kernel and had wicked batt drain. So I stayed with the one in the Rom and its much better. No radios yet. I'll get you some more info tomorrow. I know I'm forgetting stuff.

Thanks no problem. Yeah I'm loving TW and its refreshing after so much aosp and blue!

I'm sure we'll get tired of TW and want to go back to aosp at some point.... that's how it works right?! :p

Look forward to your info and synergy is sounding like my first custom flash.

That's why this dev community is so great. We have choices and good ones. You didn't like TW and I'm enjoying the change and now we're both happy with our devices. I like the hard keys and I love the external SD card. Battery life is great too.

As for Synergy.. the nightly R25 is out this morning and it's looking better and better each build. (if you like TW ;-) Not sure if the BT thing has been resolved yet but it will soon. Have to read up on XDA now.

Out for the day.. bbl. Have fun.

bj I'm looking for a debloated stock VRALG1 rom with the same kernel and same VRLG1 baseband. Is that available? Invisiblek's?

are you currently on the G1 baseband??...if not...

my suggestion would be to ask Rolo for a link to this G1 Firmware/Baseband ODIN file (might be in his guide post)....

i would do a data wipe and flash that in ODIN...it will get you setup nice and stock with the radios and firmware you want...then id head over to xda and just scroll through the posts...there are a few very stock ROMs over there

So.... there's finally a way to get an unlocked bootloader???? Sweat!!!!!!

I mean this is probably the only reason I did not own an SIII. Despite its superior hardware, that bootloader issue was a real setback.

Yes, they've had it for a couple of days now. Even an app in the market for one click unlock. Rooting is a one step process too.

Since I am on the newest (I assume) IMM76D.I535VRALG1 build with the I535VRLG1 baseband, which method do you recommend to root? droidstyles section 1? Thx bja :)

edit: you recommend also backing up the IMEi or is it a non-issue now?

That was the original root method, which I found arcane. So I waited a day and they came up with this one: [ROOT][TOOL][2012-07-24] GS3DebugFSRoot: Root the Verizon GSIII without flashing - xda-developers which everyone seems to be using now. It worked flawlessly.

As for backing up the IMEI, I did it just in case. It seems rare but certainly not unheard of when flashing AOSP based roms. If you're on stock then it's relatively easy to do, you just need that program, QPST, then follow this:

[Tutorial] IMEI - Backup NV with QPST - US Variants - Galaxy S III - RootzWiki

So in rooting, use the batch file, then go to market and dl ez-recovery app, and flash recovery cwm 6.0.1.0 I believe it is. Make an immediate backup of your current stock rooted rom and then unlock the bootloader. At least that's how I did it but things might have changed in the last week. I have since flashed CWM touch 6.0.1.2 and did it via ez-recovery, pointing to an external file that I downloaded this morning.

Are you ready?

I used the one-step tool to unlock, piece of cake. A few hours later I was up on CM10. It's pretty sweet, and really "google now" alone makes this worthwhile.

For those of you who are still wondering about how to do it all I did was flash it using CWM, like with my old HTC phones- download the zip, do MD5 check, boot into CWM recovery, make nandroid, clear caches, flash zip from sd card, voila! Also flashed the gapps download at the same time, makes things easier.

So far I'm on CM10 for about 20 hours and I find it very pleasing. Fast & smooth. Haven't discovered all the features yet, but that's the fun.
