Motorola Photon Q Specs

Awesome! I am not going to run out and buy it right away - especially not with the way pricing went for the original, but I am looking forward to comparing the two before we decide how we'll use our upgrades.

Not shocked at the price, but I have a feeling it will drop at some point - and that's when I'll jump.

Yup. I'm figuring 2 weeks after release (if not sooner), price will drop. I ended up getting 2 price adjustments on my MoPho ($179 price match w/ radio shack & $99 price reduction after 3 weeks of the phone being released).

I only took advantage of the $99 reduction myself. The $20 off wasn't worth my time/effort but when it dropped $100 I was there to use that one.

I'd rather not deal with that and I also know that there can be some awesome deals around Black Friday for phones.

I guess when you have a phone you love you don't feel the need to rush out and change. Plus we do need to decide what to do with my current MoPho. Do I keep it for my DH or do I sell it back or just keep it in case...

Oh, the 1st reduction actually took no effort on my part except for printing out the radio shack ad and bringing it while I was doing the ugprade...LOL...I wouldn't have gone to the store to get a price match if it was after the fact.

I'm personally keeping it. Having a phone with an unlocked SIM (for international/travelling purposes), that can also be re-activated as a back-up phone on Sprint, and will definitely be a fantastic dedicated media player (coupled with my lapdock 100)...it's exactly what I need, aside from my daily phone.

Posted in a couple other threads:
For those of you that have been considering the MoPho Q and happen to be Best Buy rewardszone members, you can pre-order through https://rewardzonemobile.com/
Here's the thing, it's affiliated with Best Buy, but not necessarily a "direct" link to Best Buy, so exchanges do seem to be a little more involved (in the event anything is wrong). I checked with a local store and they said they'd price match, if the stores list at $199

Oh yeah, the whole reason I'm mentioning this is, rewardzonemobile.com has the MoPho Q listed at $149.

Interesting about the price already. I think that's exactly why I am waiting on this phone. I also want to play with it more to make sure it is exactly what I want as this is my last cheap upgrade for 2 years.

Looks great in those videos though. I hope to find some time this weekend to see it. Hopefully it will be available Sunday at some Sprint stores for me to look at and see side by side.

As much as we all loved the MoPho, I'm pretty sure you'll have the same experience and better performance (w/ that snapdragon 1.5ghz processor). Next closest physical qwerty phone that's been rumored is the LG Cayenne, which doesn't have as good of specs.

On paper it sounds like it is great. I always need to make sure it feels right. As a female with tiny hands (size 4 ring for example) I am quite particular on a how a phone feels.

I am curious to see how the phones compare in display. Seems the MoPho is a love or hate thing and I would like to see the two side by side for fun.

There is nothing I hate about the MoPho - only one thing I dislike and that is the one thing the MoPho Q will have.

I talked it over with my husband and we are pretty sure we will keep the original MoPho for him and have the Q for me. Our 4yo can play with the old Evo if he wants LOL I'm excited for the new one and really hope it is everything I'd dream in a phone.

If only the battery were removable but oh well...

Something that I am confused about is... do the onscreen buttons count as part of the screen resolution? If so, wouldn't it basically have the exact same size usable area as the Epic, 800 x 480 at 4"?
I thought of you today when looking at the phone. Yes the buttons are part of the resolution *but* they hide when looking at videos and the like. So when it comes to important stuff, the buttons are not in the way.

That is still part of the problem. You have to tap the screen to get buttons back. They take up res on your home screen. I really don't get the move away from actual buttons (physical or capacitive). Designs aren't that much different and there is still plenty of bezel for them, especially when you don't have a ton of branding on the front of the phone. Just decreases usability without them. Sammy has it right.

And while this phone is pretty good on its own, it is still a disappointment as a true upgrade to the epic. The epic was toe to toe spec wise to its slate counterparts. The Q isn't. Give me a 720 screen and 2 gigs of RAM. Even if the battery life is decent, it's still fixed, and there are too many what if scenarios when us business people (and road warriors to boot) can run out of juice. Now our only option is to be tethered to a battery pack or outlet. It is not productive or always feasible.

The embedded sim is nothing but pure unadulterated greed and a big FU to anyone who travels, casually or for business. Someone gave the argument of business travel and companies reimburse. Was like, that's your argument? Milk companies for more revenue because it's not coming out of your pocket? Regardless of those questionable ethics and ignoring 1099's and people that foot their own bill. If I started submitting expenses for the phone that were originally under $100 and are now pushing $500, eyebrows would be raised. A $2500 trip that is now over $3000 would start to be questioned. Sorry, but it is just inexcusable for a phone that is advertised as world friendly. It is not to anyone's wallet but Sprint's.

And with embedding these things, space saving is supposed to be a side effect, or at least using the extra space for a bigger battery. The Q does neither. It is fatter than the droid 4 and the battery is even smaller than the Evo. The reduced footprint is meaningless when weight and thickness aren't reduced.

I got the phone for my relative, who's on my account. The bold part isn't true. It's thinner than the Droid 4. I'm assuming you meant LTEvo, not the original Evo because it's definitely a bigger battery than the original Evo.

Epic____ 124.0 x 65.0 x 14.0 155g
Photon Q 126.4 x 66.0 x 13.7 170g
Droid 4__ 126.7 x 69.9 x 12.9 179g

And why would i care about the original evo? the only relevant 2yr old phone is the Epic when discussing the Q. It's bad enough the companies have to add twenty million descriptors when naming a phone. Don't cater to them by perpetuating here.:) If anyone mentions the Evo in a current discussion it should be a given it's the LTE version. And in this case I'm comparing fixed batteries.

Seriously though. Evo 2 wouldn't have been enough of a name? Or just Evo HD, Evo LTE? All the add on names are just ridiculous.

Doesn't mean i'm not picking up mine in an hour, but it doesn't mean I'm happy. I'm just hoping the better radios will stop my battery from draining where I'm in signal challenged areas for hours on end, and I can chew through an 1800mAh battery in my Epic in about 4-5hrs with average use. And next Wednesday I'll have a good day to test that out as my one hospital's OR is 20ft from the edge of the building, and sitting in an OR room all day checking some email, answering some texts and minimal surfing kills my battery in that 4-5hr range.

Well, good luck to any customer who picks this phone up after you've experienced the superiority of the original MoPho. I expect pure disappointment. Those specs are a step back to 2009. I wonder what the price will be. It better be cheaper than $99 or I doubt that there will be many takers.

While I can have my gripes with some of the specs on the phone... S4 w/1gb of RAM is the same as the premium slates outside of the 2gb of RAM in the GS3. The qHD screen while not HD is at least not Pentile and the colorboost doesn't seem to have made the colors oversaturated like it is on the Atrix HD and the screen is much brighter for daytime viewing.

The only two specs that are long in tooth are the qHD and sub 1800mAh battery, neither of which existed in 09' in a smartphone. Even said sarcastically, the comment makes no sense. Superiority of the og Photon? outside of the removable battery and unlocked SIM, what else is superior? The tegra 2 processor or the pentile qHD screen? The only thing I'll give you is the capacitive buttons not being on screen which is my other gripe. They need to be back on the bezel. The branding is gone so there is plenty of room for them.

The lack of branding on the front is also nice.

Definitely understandable. Seriously though, even with the dimensions, it felt thinner than the Droid 4 to me.

One thing I can tell you is that, I like the Colorboost a lot. I didn't think it'd make that much of a difference for me, but no pentile + color boost really looked nice and crisp and I like the overall screen experience better than the current moPho. One thing I did notice is, the stock UI still seems to have a slight 'bit of lag.

I'm using Holo so no stock for me. And is it me, but do I still see pixels?

Over the Epic, it definitely charges quicker which is a plus. The tab key is messing me up a bit as is the apostrophe. Those are just learning curve things I'm sure. Don't like the lack of capacitive or hard buttons, and I don't care for the order of the on screen ones. That's about it for now.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to trying out Holo and Apex. I honestly couldn't see them, in comparison to how I saw them on the MoPho. The pixels never really bothered me though.

I agree with the on-screen buttons (as far as order). I'd like them a whole lot better, if the manufacturers were able to get rid of the bottom bezel (that does absolutely nothing) and just add that part of the phone to the screen viewing. Shoot, if you're getting rid of the capacitive buttons, then what's the point of having that bottom bezel anyway?
