If you're going to be testing out a few roms, you could make a nandroid backup in Recovery, which is basically the equivalent of a restore image on the PC. You would be able to "rollback" to your previous rom setup in the matter of a few minutes.

But, it's always good to do frequent backups in Titanium Backup just in case a nandroid backup gets corrupted, which is pretty rare. That way, your app data will be up to date if you have to restore your apps individually.

Never use Rom Manager. It's a no-no for the i777 because it's been known to mess up our phones. BTW, how far into the flashing process are you? Are you rooted? Do you already have a custom rom installed?

ETA: Just saw you were rooted with siyah kernel a few threads down. Anyway, to run a a nandroid backup, you need to enter ClockworkMod Recovery.

1. With the phone powered off, hold down the vol up + vol down + power buttons continuously until the initial boot screen appears. When in Recovery, use the volume buttons to move up/down the menu and the power button to select.

Then, ignore step 1 and follow steps 2-3 in this guide.

Not to hijack, but these are two roms I hear about the most, so I jumped in here to get see what everybody was talking about. The launchers are being discussed, so I'd like to ask this:

I use LauncherPro pretty religiously. I have for a couple of years. I hate change. LOL So I would probably end up using LP with whatever ROM I choose. Do you think using LP "ruins" either of these ROMs?

LauncherPro is considered "abandonware" in that no work has been done on it for over a year and the developer isn't really supporting it beyond FroYo, even though it works on Gingerbread. I'm not sure it would run reliably on ICS. For ICS you should look at Apex or Nova.

I am on ICS and use Launcher Pro as my main launcher with no issues whatsoever.

how do you boot into recovery mode?
also, is our phone also called skyrocket? i am looking at this page, and noticed it: Milestone 6 - Releases - Releases - News.
I am rooted, and looking for a nice rom.
also, will i loose root if doing a factory reset?
lastly, the aokp, what does it run (ics, jellybean)?

NO our phone is NOT NOT the Skyrocket that is At&t LTE version of the S2...

Assure you are only using ROM's made for the S2 l777 ONLY....

Also I will say it... Stay away from the links you posted... IF you want to research a ROM go over to XDA and read and see what appeals. I was running CM9 now went onto CM10 both great and very smooth kernel is included making it easy unless you want to switch out.

This is just a word of advise for another noob who went through a full day of fixing a mess after using the site you posted because it seemed easier.

Hey good luck and just research and read first. JMO

yea, i used that and it messed me up.

when you say cm, are you referring to this site?: CyanogenMod | Android Community Rom based on Ice Cream Sandwich it seems very popular, like a lot of people use it.

Yup! I'm running CM9(stable) and have had no issues. Planning on dual Rom with Jelly bean soon. I am using the Siyah Kernel (the beta available is working perfectly SiyahKernel for S2 & S3 | "One kernel to rule them all")

EDIT: Just went to the website and noticed he changed recently from beta6 to RC1. Flashing the new one! :)
