Help App update notification - How do I stop getting it

It could be a push ad. Download Airpush Detector from Google Play. It will find the offending app that is sending push ads to your notifications.

Do you have any UberMedia apps on your phone? They could be spamming you. Here's a list:

Another option, if you find the offending app and just can't part with it, is to use Gemini App Manager to revoke some of the permissions of the app. That might work, but not guaranteed. Of course, you'll have to be rooted.

I think he's referring to google play notifying of an update for uber social

Not necessarily. Apps do push notification ads that announce updates, mimicking Play. Play doesn't mention app names in notifications, especially for apps that aren't even installed. Ran into a similar situation with some of the Go apps. Plus, some known apps available from questionable sources may be stuffed with malware or sneaky scripts.

Wasn't Twidroid renamed to Ubersocial, or vice versa, or something like that? I'm almost positive it's a current app on the LG that was renamed on the Market but not the app itself on the phone. (Did I word that right? lol)

Yeah, I noticed that too. Twidroyd? What a joke! That was the first bloatware app to get the boot once I rooted my Op V. Yeah, it could have been useful as a Twitter client. Thing is, IT DID NOT WORK. AT. ALL. No wonder they have to pay to get it on phones. Or spam the hell out of people. Who would voluntarily download that useless P.O.S.??? Completely useless app!

Well, I tried the Airpush Detector, and it didn't find anything. I'd bet Petrah is probably right about Twidroid being renamed, and likely being the guilty party. Same developer as for UberSocial. Unless I root, guess I'll just have to live with getting and then clearing that notification (my wife gets it on her V also). I keep thinking about maybe trying to root my phone and try a custom ROM, but I'm worried I'd screw it up somehow and then be without a phone.

Ah, just thought of something. Your phone is stock. If so, you do have Twidroyd on it. It's preinstalled bloatware. The app has since merged with another Twitter client and changed its name to UberSocial, but it's still Twidroyd on your phone. That's where the push ads are coming from.

Here's what you can do for now, without rooting. Go into manage apps, click on Twidroyd, and uninstall updates and data. Make sure you are not logged into the app at all (probably easy enough if you don't use Twitter). Basically, after this, Twidroyd will likely just sit there as an unused app. It probably won't do much. Of course you will still see it in your update menu whenever you go into Google Play, but just remember not to update it. I think that's the only thing you really can do, and hope it works.

The best bet altogether, once you get used to your phone and comfortable with it, is to root. First thing you can do after that is uninstall the pre-installed bloatware. There's a list of apps you can delete somewhere here. Just don't uninstall any Google apps, just to be safe.
