Root The "Fix everything by turning your phone into an Evo 3d" thread

I'm not sure if all the zips I installed actually installed as someone mentioned already but actually I'm noticing the GPS is having more difficulties in connecting and it's dropping and losing signal more frequently which is leaving me baffled? I know I'm not doing something right. But yeah how can I verify I installed at least the first zips correctly? Thank you everyone and all your support, you guys rock.

Well I finally got it done! This process took me 1, 8 hour epic fail session a week ago. Another 8 hour session Saturday night/Sunday morning a 4 hour session last night and finally a 2 hour session this evening. Most of the 22 hours my phone was looped or locked. It took me 16 hours to achieve S-off, the Unlimited IO crew stuck with me through thick and thin. What awesome support. I know that I was online with them from 2:30am until 6:30 am Sunday straight through, and many shorter sessions earlier.

In reading the post in this thread I would read with much chagrin how many posters would write "got S-off in three tries, piece of cake" and such. Made me want to scream. That whole S-off thing was more like witchcraft then anything else.

Well after I got Juopunutbear to work the program ask you if you want to install the Juopunutbear hboot. Like a dummy I 'effed the d' and picked 'no'. The correct answer is yes. I mean YES, install it. You will install a different one later anyway and the Juopunutbear hboot gives you more options to get out of trouble if you need it.

One major problem I had is that the S-off process bashed three of my SD-cards. I backed everything up and put a blank SD-card in the phone before starting but in the process of trying to un-loop my phone I tried the original and 2 other cards. I didn't know it was blowing them up until 3 of them were crushed. Whatever the S-off process was doing to the cards you couldn't read them in the phone and the PC would take about an hour to mount the card before I could reformat them.

Without a good SD-card a lot of things become difficult. When I couldn't use my PC to write files to an SD-card I was able to use my good old Optimus V, that phone saved my a**.

Anyway wanted to let folks know that this can be a breeze and it can be 'H_E_double_hockey_sticks'. So \\\BACKUP YOUR STUFF/// before you start. Select "Yes" to install the Juopunutbear hboot and good luck.

Ok I may have overlooked something but as a complete noob how do I install QPST? Actually what is it? (Hides, yeah I'm fairly new to this..) Also I'm not sure if all the zips I installed actually installed as someone mentioned already but actually I'm noticing the GPS is having more difficulties in connecting and it's dropping and losing signal more frequently which Is what is baffling me, how can stock be better right? I know I'm not doing something right. But yeah how can I verify I installed at least the first zips correctly? Thank you everyone and all your support, you guys rock.

Unzip it on your PC and run the exe file. Its called something like Startup.exe or such.

can someone jump on freenode irc @ #evo-v

I need someone to explain this stuff. Because i flash this hboot i can't boot anything else. I flash joupunotbear hboot i can boot vm stuff. I got cm10 built but if i get no boot on pretty much everything its useless.

[Disregard] The eng hboot seems to be useful for GB. We'll just have to use the jbear hboots if we want CM10 and/or VM leak based stuff. I'm okay with that.

[Edit] Thank you krowley3 (post #292 below) for correcting me with a link to xda. It had been a while since I looked at the xda post about it and I guess I half remembered it. It serves me right trying to make a quick post before leaving work and not checking that xda thread again.

On this ENG HBOOT 1.04 I have booted GB Sense/AOSP, ICS Sense/AOSP, and JB AOSP. I am not sure what problems you are having because so far it will boot everything except your Stock Rom and any rom with the latest Sprint OTA kernel (Requires HBOOT 1.58). Let me know if you have any questions or need testing done and I am happy to test. From the research I have done the ENG HBOOT (1.04) and the Sprint HBOOT 1.40 are the best to use with AOSP. 1.50 will boot as AOSP as well, but some have reported issues with doing so. 1.57(VM) and new 1.58 (New Sprint OTA) have not booted any AOSP roms at all to my knowledge. For the most up to date info on this please check the link out below.

This is completely untrue.

Then what? Leave it zipped or extract the files?

Extract it, then pull your battery, put it back in, boot up, press ##3424# to put it in diag mode, Plug it in, you should be prompted on your computed, so place the extracted file on your desktop, to find easy, and do a manual setup when the install wizard pops up. Fallow the steps, and you should have them installed.

I pull the battery cause when I tried to get the computer to see the phone it wouldn't and for some reason when I pulled the battery and did it the way I told you it worked for me. So let me know.
