I'm glad you know what goes on in my mind so well. I might not have ever spent a penny on an Apple product, but I have spent a lot of time using them - mostly products owned by friends, room mates and girl friends over the years. From Apple II, Apple IIGS, Mac, color Mac, iMac, Macbook, PowerPC Mac, Intel Mac, to the iphone 3, iphone 4 and the ipods and ipads; I have tried them all. I even spent significant time on an Apple Lisa in college when my room mate had one and my Atari 800 had been stolen (out of the same room the Lisa was in). I have seen the benefits of the Apple products, but also the detractors. I would never buy a product that is not expandable, connectable or locks me into one controlling way of doing things. Apple usually has good quality hardware, but they always do something that makes me as a power user not want them. For that reason, I have chosen not to spend my money there. I am not a fan of Microsoft or Google either for many reasons. My choices always come down to lesser of evils!
When I bought my first Android I came really close to buying an iphone instead. They were sold out in the store I was in or I would have bought it on the spot. I went home and did a little research and found out that I couldn't connect iphones to my PC without effen itunes and all of the other Big Brother controlling BS that Apple loves to pull. Buying the iphone would have been an impulse decision and I am glad that I got the extra time to do a little research because I would not have been happy. I decided to go with Android since their OS had shown signs of significant improvement from when I had looked at them previously. The way I use my phones, Android was the right decision. If I was buying a phone for my girlfriend or mother, I might actually buy an iphone.
Sorry, but if these conscious, thought out decisions make me a fan boy then I guess I am.
