Droid razr maxx camera?

I'm planning a trip to Disney World this fall and since I don't want to lug around my dsr camera, I was going to buy a small point and shoot camera. I then started thinking that maybe, instead of buying the point and shoot camera, I should spend the money on a high end smart phone and use it's camera.

Can anyone comment on how good the droid razr maxx camera is? How does it compare to a point and shoot. Colors, action shots, low light, etc.?

My other choice is the lg lucid if anyone can comment on its camera.

If the technology just isn't there yet with the smart phone camera's, then I'll just go ahead and get the point and shoot camera.

Thanks.

Camera sucks. Take a point & shoot.

I'd say it does a decent job at it. It also has a few cool features.. it can take panoramic pictures (and it does a better job at that then my $300 camera), and another thing it does that I like is the multi-shot, it will take 6 consecutive pictures.. I call it an action shot because you can see what people are doing if you go through them.

I like the camera the quality is pretty good considering how small it is compared to digital cameras of the equal

It's pretty average for a current, high-end smartphone camera. Does well outdoors with good light.

+1 ... We took a family trip to Disney a couple years ago and I am glad I brought my point and shoot. My wife and I are wedding photographers and didn't want to carry our DSLR's either ... the point and shoot was great, just wish it could have shot in RAW

I will say that on my recent trip to New York with my friends, my shots were easily the lowest quality compared to the iPhone 4S, the HTC Amaze, and the Samsung Galaxy S3.
Did you have it set for 6MP or 8MP. It makes a bit of difference.

Those who say the camera sucks, don't know how to use it. It is a camera within a phone. It obviously will not be as good as a normal camera, but it is still good none the less. The more lighting you have, the better the picture. But it still takes good pictures at night. With the flash. Go to the thread with the photos from this phone and see for yourself. The next phone rumored to be the RAZR HD will have a better camera. 13mp. (rumored) Either way. Don't listen to those that say this camera sucks. Because it doesn't.

Here is my experience with the camera. Low light takes bad pictures. Obviously the more still you can be, the better. In fact, if you are completely still in good light it can take some very good pictures. Overall my old HTC Droid Eris took better pictures and had a better zoom.(I am in no way stating that the Droid Eris is a better phone overall, just the camere). In closing, if the lighting is good and you can be pretty still, it is capable of taking some very good pictures.

Exactly ... it's a camera phone, so it's not as good as a camera. The OP is going on a vacation to a place he most likely won't visit again ... why would you count on a camera phone?

The more lighting you have, the better the picture.

Same could be said for any kind of camera ... this is the reason a lens with a larger aperture (smaller f number) is more expensive, they let more light in (among other things) allowing for a faster shutter speed which freezes motion in pictures. When photographing my son's hockey, I use a lens with an aperture of 1.8 ... the Razr MAXX has a fixed aperture of 2.4, which is pretty good.

But it still takes good pictures at night. With the flash.

I have to disagree here. Typically the color is off, which can be finxed if you know photoshop or lightroom. The pictures also tend to be more grainy, this can also be fixed a little in either of those programs.

Go to the thread with the photos from this phone and see for yourself.

I have, and the photos in perfect lighting with no motion look great, the rest would look better with a real camera

The number of mp has nothing to do with the quality, unless you start talking about cropping the images or printing them at a large size.

Ummm, wasn't that the point of this thread? Listed to what people have to say and then he can decide for himself?

Sorry that the post got a bit long. I will finish with a photo taken with my MAXX yesterday in perfect lighting. My daughter held still for the most part, but you can see her hand is a bit blurry because she was moving it ....
