speculation, rumors, leaks about EVO release

I'll start a rumor...I suspect that Sprint will be smart and release the EVO on June 6th....which is 1 year after the PRE was released and when Premier customers would be able to upgrade.

Now of course Id rather see it much sooner....and thanks to a Loophole, I am able to upgrade now, regardless that I have a PRE ;)

hey i have a question, we just switched to sprint from us cellular on dec. 28th, basically because (us) really didnt have any great phones. btw..i am on a family plan, and my father has the primary phone, so he is able to upgrade on a yearly bases, ive been told, so when the time comes, can he upgrade his crap phone to this EVO, then give it to me (place my phone# on it) and revert back to his old phone. would sprint do that. and secondly, when would he be able to upgrade his phone, is it once a year, or do you have to wait until one year has passed on the contract.

Yes, you can 'use' his upgrade to get the EVO. Basically he'd sign a new two-year contract and then swap the phone to your line. He would receive another upgrade in one year, regardless of that contract term.

One thing to note is that due to the program stipulations, if you use his upgrade at a Sprint store or other location that requires mail-in rebates, you will forfeit the rebate. Sprint requires the phone to be on the upgraded line for 30 days to qualify for the rebate. Just buy it at Best Buy or Radio Shack, anywhere that offers instant rebates.

Yea I think hes right about the UI thing. Something just doesnt seem right in all the videos ive watched (all of them lol). I dont know if it was just because the phone is still so new and people are already familiar with sense UI or what. I wouldnt be surprised if they revamp the entire UI somehow.

PS He is also saying it will come in white and black. Im def getting white
What if HTC decides to debut their rumored "Espresso" UI on the EVO 4G?

Alleged shots of HTC Espresso UI give a glimpse of HTC's upcoming Sense UI refresh - Know Your Cell

As for the color I'll settle for the sleek black

wjackson14- "It will be released the first week of June. I'll try and get you i hard date."

is that the quote you were looking at? whats his source? i skimmed through and didnt seem like he answered..

Edit:
"Also the only apps that demoers of the device were allowed to use at CTIA were youtube and the camera app. Sprint has something up their sleeves reguarding everything else"
got goosebumps after reading that lol

That's just one of jackson's quotes, but I am not sure who his source is either. He never has said.

I could not do white. If you get anything on that your screwed. I am sticking with black.

Well I only have 1 sprint store in my city, and its a damn kiosk! Hopefully I can preorder this thing online and just have it shipped, since I doubt the kiosk will even get them

probably not. When the Pre came out, the company store had them, but the kiosk was only handing our numbered pre-order tickets. I felt bad for them.

I guess that means you are going on a road trip, woot!

Just saw this post in the sprint community forum - take it with a grain of salt of course:

"i use to work for sprint and i have a lot of insiders...they are having a meeting on the 31st of this month..the topic is unknown but i think it's going to be about 4g and new devices because this is what we did for the palm pre launch..we knew about it a few month before the public and all employees had to sign a confidentiality agreement not to talk about the device..but as soon as i get word i'll let yall know what it is about..they also have a monthly newsletter for employees with different updates and dates for device releases..when i get the date i'll post it up..it's funny cause i quit back in december but i still get nightly voice mails from my old boss about updates and meetings..haha."

That would make me happy. Last new Sprint phone I got was the Pre on release day. I was #2 in the line at my local mall. First time I lined up for a phone. For Evo, I think I would camp out to get one.

Haha, I was 3rd in line for the Pre, got there at 3:30am, was in and out by 8:15am and ended up taking the thing back, but if I have to I will stand in line for this phone too but I don't think I will take this one back, I do like the Androids

Here's another one of "Jackson"s posts at Sprint Android Community:

By the end of the year their will be a total of 10 devices supporting 4G on sprint, with the Evo being the obvious flagship, and yess folks I do mean that. Nothing is going to be able to compare to this phone. However those of you that prefer webOS over Android, the palm c40 will be a wimax device. Also the LG ls680 will be the first wimax android phone with a keyboard. the C40 will have one but again that will be webos. There is also supposed to be a hot device from motorola. Not sure what it is, but to me (this is speculation) it could very be the motorola shadow aka the Nexus Two. This would make sense for the next google phone because it could make great use of the highspeeds on WiMAX. Keep ya'll posted tho! What a great time it is to be Sprint subscribers!!!

yea read that earlier. trying to figure out with all those new phones he is talking about, how the evo will still be the best

Just because a phone has a keyboard, doesn't make it better than one without one.

And just because there will be a WebOS WiMax phone, doesn't mean the hardware aspect of the phone will be any good.

This is an HTC Android with a Snapdragon we're talking about here.

Palm' hardware is garbage, and LG phones never turn out like they're hyped to be.

Only thing I can contribute to this discussion is that my brother works for Erickson which does all the network control and probes for the 3G/4G data and voice. He's telling me that KC has probes in the area right now and they are in the testing phase of the 4G service. He works at the sprint world headquarters and his team is working on 4G network control.

I'm thinking the EVO 4g is ready to go now and that sprint is waiting for a couple more markets to be active before releasing this phone. But who knows... I don't... lol

Actually @CyberSS that's really good input. Better than nothing. Thanks for contributing. It makes total sense to be doing this kind of active testing and opening more markets before release time. I noticed the same thing too when the 4G rep for sprint is continuing to tweet about all the new cities about to get 4G this year

Evo has amoled!!
from the man himself:
wjackson- "The device being released by Sprint will be amoled!!!!!

This is directly from a sprint run website for developers who make Sprint apps

http://developer.sprint.com/site/global/develop/mobile_platforms/android/android.jsp"

Yea I saw him post that earlier. To be honest, I wouldnt put much weight into it. He is basing that solely on a misprint on that website that has been there for a while. Its possible, but I would say its unlikely

Also looks like it might have its own appstore of some sort

HTC EVO 4G Review
Coverage in some cities with the AT&T’s iPhone have had problems in recent years handling the increased usage that has been placed on the towers. Sprint has been working to correct similar problems and has upgraded their technology to ensure that they will not have as many dropped calls as the iPhone commonly has. The HTC is a robust phone that will operate in many ways the same way that the iPhone does. The phone will have access to an app store that is provided by Sprint and will feature a number of different apps available to users of the HTC Evo 4g. The coverage is excellent, and the apps are even better. It has been described as a top notch phone that will give Sprint a viable alternative to other smart phones that have been rising in popularity in recent weeks.
