I really really want one...........but

Hi all,

So here's my dilema. I currently have a HTC One X and a HTC flyer. I am using the flyer more and more these days and finding the 7" a bit limiting. I'm also sick of putting up wit an outdated OS. I am in Thailand where WiFi network coverage (outside of home) is limited.
Having decided on a larger tablet and after looking at what's currently available I am down to galaxy note 10.1 or the TF700T. I had all but decided on the TF700T. But now I find its only available in WiFi version and I really need (want) mobile network.

So here comes the request for advice. Is it possible to get mobile network using a 3G dongle in the keyboard USB. Has anyone ever tried this.
Alternatively, if I teather to my phone is my phone battery usage going to spiral downwards.

If neither of these is going to be a solution then I'm going to have to go with the galaxy note 10.1 but I so want a TF700T.

Please help me decide.

They should be releasing a 3g/4g Infinity in the near future if you wanted to wait.

Otherwise tethering your phone or getting a separate hotpot device may be your options. Yes, tethering your phone will affect your phone's battery.

I don't know if it was on here, but I read somewhere that you can use your phones network by pairing your phone and tablet up using bluetooth, which should be easier on the battery.

Thanks. I'll look into the Bluetooth option. Regarding the seperate hotspot you are right. I had a look round at the mobile operators websites ans they do in fact offer a 'MiFi' which is exactly that. A little WiFi hub with a 3G SIM inside.

So if the Bluetooth option works, great, if not ill get the MiFi. Just means carrying it around with me but no biggie, its not much bigger than a USB dongle.

Hopefully ill be getting the TF700T at the weekend.

I just tested the BT tether feature of PDANET 3.5 using the TF700 and my DROID3. Works like a charm.

There is also a WIFI option that I did not test, but only because on the rare times I need to tether, I only want the limited range radio (BT) and not the stronger WIFI signal. There is also a USB connection option if you have the keyboard/dock.

I am not sure which one burns the most battery but if I had to guess, I would place WIFI as the most power hungry, and USB as the least, with BT in the middle.

Hi, Thanks for the info on the PDANET 3.5 app. I had been reading up on Bluetooth tethering and it seems it can be a bit hit and miss with manually getting it set up. This app is going to make a big difference.

Well I bit the bullet and went ahead with the TF700T. After getting both the Galaxy Note 10.1 and the Infinity in my hands it didn't take much deciding.

Putting the repective specs aside the Galaxy Note looked nice but as soon as I picked it up it just felt cheap. Just looking at the Infinity was enough and picking it up really nailed it for me. Absolutely beutifully built and a total quality feel.

It's busy charging at the moment so only had a brief encounter with it but I'm sure I'll have some questions once I get using it.

As with every Samsung product. Really wish someone would introduce them to metal. The Nexus is a fantastic phone, but only because of the software. The build sucks somewhat.
