What apps o you guys use? Looking for a really reliable feature full one to put onto my S3. I remember back when i was researching into buying mine, I saw a video on youtube of a guy using some software to locate his phone and access its cameras to take photo graphs and mics to listen in. Aswell as access to the gallery ect. Cant remember the name now though!!

Doesn't the S3 enable us to use Samsung Dive - a service to track our lost phones?

Hmm good call. It appears that way yes. I can log in. Just testing it now. Hope I haven't frozen something it needs to communicate.

Edit> None of the images in instructions to set this up show anything past ticking the location tick box.

Problem is in that image you can see that remote controls is still off. This never turns on on my device.... Im not sure at what point it should turn on...

I know AT&T and possibly sprint have removed this.

I got mine working. I thought it was theming at first so I reflashed my ROM but still no joy.

Now with lots of adding and removing the samsung account, I finally got the on off slider to slide on.

Now works...

Ahhhh, I was about to start investigating SAMSUNG DIVE but I guess I won't bother. I see that my At&T phone doesn't have the "track my phone" option as you say.

I guess I'll look at Cerberus.

I also developed the following list of potential apps that do this stuff apparently:

WHERE'S MY DROID
ANDROIDLOST
SEEKDROID
ANDROID ANTI-THEFT
ANTI-THEFT DROID FREE

There may be others

I'm glad someone started a thread on this because I am also curious for real experiences in terms of what is the best/most powerful/easiest to use/etc.

One question - is there a RISK that if someone hacks into the [CERBERUS, ANDROIDLOST, etc] websites that they can do lots of funky stuff that I don't want them to do, like track ME, or WIPE MY PHONE, or TAKE MY PICTURE etc. Like all the stuff that we all think we're going to do to that poor thief that steals our phone. Are we all relying on the security of the website of our chosen service so that some phlucking hacker doesn't mess with US?

I'd like to understand what I'm signing up for as I decide whether it's worth it to add such a system to my phone. Tradeoff between the negatives of the above, if any, vs the positives of being able to potentially track my phone.

I searched this the other day myself. Most of the "bloggers" had this at the top of their list.

avast! Free Mobile Security | Antivirus & Anti-Theft App for Android

avast! Mobile Security

Antivirus
Performs on-demand scans of all installed apps and memory card content, as well as on-access scans of apps upon first execution. Options for scheduling scans, virus definition updates, uninstalling apps, deleting files, or reporting a false-positive to our virus lab.

Privacy Report
Scans and displays (grid) access rights and intents of installed apps, identifying potential privacy risks, so you know how much info you are really providing to each app.

SMS/Call Filtering
Filter calls and/or messages from contact list using set parameters based on day(s) of the week, start time, and end time. Blocked calls redirect to voicemail, while blocked messages are stored via filter log. Also possible to block outgoing calls.

App Manager
Similar to Windows Task Manager, it shows a list of running apps and their size (MB), CPU load, used memory, and number of threads and services

Holy Shnikes that is some list of features....

I think the only thing they forgot is "Activate small cutting laser to free phone from thief's grip and pop-out wings to fly phone back to pre-determined location via GPS locator settings, and execute soft touchdown landing with mini airbag deployed"

Mine turned on by sliding the control to the right.

Avast anti-theft is best. It is free and provide almost all (or more) features than cerberus. Features like Stealth Mode, Call/SMS forwarding etc. Specially avast anti-theft can survives on hard resets(dont know about ceberus)

I also use Androidlost for particularly on/off wifi, gps and gprs. Because Avast initially tried to communicate through Wifi, where as If I want to only/direcly communicate through gprs, then I use Androidlost to enable gprs and then use commands of Avast. This workaround give me more control to manually apply different options to track my phone, other than the default setting which i done on Avast anti-theft.
