Does the Droid Eris have a plastic or glass screen?

so i finally got an email back from HTC (had to send a follow-up because the first was never answered) about whether or not the screen is glass or plastic. i had sincerely thought i would either hear it was plastic or i would hear it was glass, and be able to add some sort of official word towards the matter. i didn't expect this at all:

"I understand wanting to know what the screen of the Eris is made of. Any materials, unless published in official materials from HTC, are considered proprietary. As such, these details are not released. I apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us again. You can find additional support at our user forum www.htcwiki.com. There is also a customer satisfaction survey for you to take if you are interested."

i guess we will never know for sure.

Or, you know, you could watch the video I made for you guys. -.-

my screen is plastic on the eris. i know this because i, like a ******, put it in my coat pocket with some other items, and now it has a small gouge in the screen. i didnt know i had ocd so bad. no one else sees it until i point it out, but for me, there might as well be a neon arrow pointing to it. yeah, i am not happy about it at at all:eek:

Other items?
You mean like sand, or a diamond?

You see, your screen is not plastic. It just isn't.
Glass isn't scratchproof, mind you, but there is no way in hell your Eris screen is plastic.
It's ****ing CAPACITIVE.

That means it HAS to be made out of glass, regardless, even if you ignore the video of proof I made.

Point:
Keep your phone out of the same pocket as your glass cutter.

i was getting gas and put the phone on top of the trunk and drove off and forgot to the grab it.

I left then realize didn't have my phone, went back to look for it at the gas station. It was there on the ground face down when i got gas

The screen didn't shatter no scratches. Good thing no one didn't run it over.

Yeah, mine went ploppity-clunk-bonk from my shirt pocket to the coffee table to the floor, ending up face down. I picked it up and looked it over from several angles and saw only one little blemish on the chrome receptical for the charger.

The screen has nothing, not even a little scratch.

a-HEM, no more shirt pocket for my Eris.. holster only.

I wish I knew why some of you are getting scratched screens. I've had a completely bare phone for a few months now, and it has been dropped a couple times, and I carefully carry it in pockets pretty much all the time. Usually there is nothing else in the pocket with it, but if there is, I just make sure I put the face, away from any other items. I just thoroughly checked, and I see no blemishes at all on the screen (a couple very minor ones on the body though). It's just weird the difference in related experience.

I didn't get anything for my wife's Moto Droid either, except insurance. She seems incapable of being careful, but I'm at least as worried about her losing it as I am her breaking it which, cases and screen protectors do nothing for. :)

Definitely very scratchable. I put mine in my pocket with my lighter and I have very noticeable scratches on the middle of the screen that will not come off with cleaning.

Phone is still usable, but it is pretty annoying as I can see the scratch even in low light - just from the pixels shining through it.

Well, lighter? There's yer problem. XD

Do NOT use the Zagg invisible shield on your screen! Its by far the WORST screen protector out there. The clarity is awful and the screen protector feels like rubber and grips your finger when sliding it around the screen.

Zagg invisible shield was designed for the BODY of devices not the screens. The material used is NOT fully transparent and its a GLUE based application.

Further more, your Eris does NOT need a body shield since its a matte finish you cant see scratches easily.

Silicon based non-adhesive screen protectors are the ONLY kind of screen protectors you should be buying.

You must have put it on wrong or added glue. I have used it on my touch for 3 years with no problems. I just sold it when I got the eris and removed the screen protector to show the guy the screen is perfect. I then put the screen protector back on with no problems. I have one on my eris and would absolutely recommend it.
