Root Regaw Mod One Click Root

With S-OFF you can also flash things through the bootloader, such as radios or splashscreens.

Ah yes those as well, good point.

@strider70 basically even though the bootloader is unlocked, HTC has put restrictions to what access you have to certain system partitions. so yes you can flash roms, but there is a process to follow to flash kernels. you will not be able to flash or update your radios or be able to change the splashscreen.

i will try to add this in to the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...panda-s-htc-dev-ltevo-root-dummies-guide.html at some point to help clear things up.

So my impression of what results from using Regaw Mod is:
- Root and superuser
- TWRP recovery

But when flashing ROMs, you flash through the recovery. However, this does not flash the kernel within the ROM for you. I would have to flash the boot.img (contains kernel) through ADB and fastboot after flashing the ROM. Correct?

After zedomax/regaw mod, I would need to run Lazy Panda to get S-OFF. Once achieved:
- Will I be able to flash kernel in TWRP by flashing any ROM (as a whole) or is it still by fastboot flashing?

yes you got the idea.

once you have s-off then you can flash the rom as is without having to flash the boot.img separately. s-off will be just like in the olden days with og evo. there will be no need to use fastboot. you can flash cutoms kernels in recovery as well. it is much more advantageous to have s-off.

I'm patiently going about this to get all my facts straight.
Reading sticky dummies guides is awesome but it's the small details and higher abstraction of what's really going on gives me problems. Similar to the questions I asked earlier. I am thankful to have you guys point me into the right direction.

I'm currently comparing the root method between zedomax and Regaw Mod. I'm wondering if using Regaw Mod which uses HTCDev Unlock and token is information I will need again someday. I know the Regaw Mod will do all that work for me, but I cant help but feel I may need that info which HTCDev normally requires the dev to register and etc.

I guess it's time I download Ubuntu for Lazy Panda later.

well in the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...panda-s-htc-dev-ltevo-root-dummies-guide.html in section 1, there is instructions on how to do it manually if you want to go that route. i see no need for it though. i had to unlock my og evo with the HTCdev site and i never used the token for anything else. i think you are over thinking this a little:D

You'll never need the HTC unlock token again. If for some reason you unroot and decide you need to root again all you have to do is re-run regawmod and it'll do all of the work for you again.

The functional differences between regawmod and zedomax is that...

regawmod will:
1)Wipe the phone
2)unlock the bootloader
3)put on a custom recovery
4)root the stock rom

Zedomax will:
Root the stock rom

If you are planning on going S-OFF I suggest zedomax so that you don't lose any data

I wish there was another method for "full root" than Regaw's method, because I can no longer use that method. My problem is a serious issue with Windows 7's .NET Framework 4.0 files that I have. A Windows update sometime in August has caused Regaw's method to fail to run every time I try to use it. In July, I was able to fix this issue. I totally uninstalled all versions of .NET framework and deleted a single update in Windows that was causing this problem of not being able to repair .NET framework. Now, however, I can't do that. For some annoying reason, I'm unable to uninstall any or all .NET framework versions (to allow me to start from scratch). I'm also unable to repair or fix my .NET framework files. Nor am I able to delete any of the Windows updates (the ones that again came down in August) that are causing these problems.

The sad result? I cannot run Regaw's root method. In addition, any program that relies on .NET Framework 4.0 will not work (like my Garmin auto-updater).

have you tried zedomax? no need for .net framework 4.0

Oh how i wish i could get s-off...:pcguru:

I am SO thankfull for this root method though. This being my first experience it really made things painless. But unfortunlety i have 1.15 so ill be fastboot flashin' and splash screen dealin' for a while. lol Its not too bad. Just alittle bit of an inconvienience. But the extra steps to flash kernels and such are cool with me. Just makes me feel more ninja bc i have to manually go through a few more steps..hehe:ridinghorse:

I used Zedomax before I was able to in July use Regaw's method, which I used to install TWRP's Custom Recovery. It still irks me that everything I've tried to resolve this .NET Framework issue has failed.

I remember your efforts to resolve the .NET framework install issues. You were probably pulling your hair out. I thank you for your effort.

If I use zedomax (seems painless in the youtube video), I will still have to in this order:
- S-OFF with Lazy Panda will give me the custom bootloader.
- Install TWRP recovery from the bootloader.
- Enjoy my fully rooted S-OFF LTEvo with all the flashing abilities.

Do I have this down? Something I should be aware of with this path? I'm strictly a Windows guy and I am definitely over-thinking it.

That looks good. Its also strongly recommended to have Linux bootable in case it bricks

I'm having trouble with zedomax method.

My phone is recognized in Windows XP Device Manager as "Android Phone". When I try to install the "androidusb.INF" driver it fails. The phone has USB Debugging enabled and is on charge.

I tried to follow the instructions from the youtube video from
How to Root/Unroot HTC Evo 4G LTE! [Windows/Mac/Linux][One-Click][<=1.22.651.1] - xda-developers
has the HTCDriver for 64 bit Windows.

If memory serves me well, don't I need to install and then uninstall HTC Sync? It seems this step has been replaced with the step above, but I'm not having any luck. I have not installed HTC Sync on my Windows XP machine yet.

If I need to move this to its own thread, please let me know since my problem no longer pertains to Regaw Mod.

Thanks.
