Yup I said it...

I just picked up a Nexus 7 tonight, and I gotta say, wow! This thing is on the money, literally ...I mean you would think a $199 tablet would feel like, well a $199 tablet! Not the case here, the build quality is Friggin awesome! And that's just the beginning, the screen is beautiful, the speakers are just plain ridiculous, and as a whole...Jellybean running on this thing is just plain crazy! Its probably the smoothest OS that I've ever used. In a nutshell AWESOME! So I'm just thinking how bananas it would be if ASUS were picked to make the next Nexus, if it were anything like the 7, with awesome build quality, a quad core, then add LTE, a quality shooter, some good battery life, and a 720P HD screen...Wooo Hooo, I'd be sold in mere seconds! Hey ya never know...

From various things I've seen, I have to wonder if the build quality is that good. This thread is one example, where roughly half the people who have responded say they have screen separation. It seems like some reviews I have seen complain about build issues, as well.

I bought my gf one, it has screen lift on the left side, and yesterday I noticed a stuck pixel. Asus is a low end manufacturer, and it shows.

All I can comment on is the one Asus device I have, their OG Transformer. It has been absolutely flawless for me without one single problem. I'll also add that I bought it at the same time as my gnex and it has received far more software updates than the gnex. Ironic since I've had zero problems with it and several major ones with the gnex.

Based on my experience with it I bought the N7 for my wife a couple weeks ago and she loves it so far. Its still early, but all signs say that this low end manufacturer made another nice looking, well built, reliable device with the newest technology that does exactly what its supposed to do.

So to all the naysayers...we all have to remember that even the BIG players have they're share of issues...

Samsung...lol, they are notoriously known for super loose buttons, and dead pixels. I've had my fair share of issues through the years with them.

Motorola ...While I still think they have very good build qualify, I've seen my fair share of issues with them as well! I went through 2 Droid X's before finally getting one without dust all under the screen. And more recently my Razr had terrible black blotches on the screen.

Hardware is hardware...its really the luck of the draw these days...

Sort of ironic, since they make really well built laptops and PC components. As of a survey a few years ago, they had a higher reliability rating than Apple when it came to laptops.

Obviously, things have gone downhill since then, as they apparently cannot seem to accomplish something as simple as gluing a screen properly. For example, the "screen separation poll" thread currently stands at 39 with, 37 without, and that is just people on this forum. Some have had multiple replacements, and have settled for one with the least amount or problems. Sorry, but if got to choose who made the next Nexus phone, Asus would not be very high on the list. Just my opinion.

Lol...go into any new phone or tablet forum and you will find multiple issues.. its just the way things are now. I can go on for an hour about the issues I've hardware wise with so many BIG name manufacturers in the last few years...Samsung, RIM, HTC, Motorola, and yes even Apple! I went through Three iPhones when the 4 dropped a few years ago because of yellow screens. Its wide spread man, every company has issues!

However....My Nexus 7 is pretty much perfect and I'm really a hard customer to please.

Maybe its something wrong with their tablet division (all companies have their weakest link), since they are still pretty highly respected in the PC world.

Just like I got lucky with my 2 GNs, you got lucky with your Nexus 7. All there is to it.

I'd pick Motorola actually, for the main reason that if they make it, Google has hands on designing, as opposed to having another manufacturer do it.

But honestly, I'd prefer each of the major manufacturers make one Nexus device per year:
HTC Nexus
Samsung Nexus
Moto Nexus
Sony Nexus

Four Nexus (Nexii?) a year. I want competition of high end pure Google devices. :D

Why not an LG and Nokia Nexus as well? ;)

When it comes to computers (PC or laptop) Asus is very low end (aka poor man's brand). If you want a throw away PC or lappy or one that the kids can run into the ground, get one with Asus components.

Well, I just bought a Samsung Tab 2 Student Edition Saturday and pretty much satisfied with it. The included keyboard and USB adapter was the selling point for me also.

Reading the forums on the N7 and alot of the issues was beginning to turn me off and helped me decide to go with the SGT2. I believe Google may have put in a rush order and that may be why alot of issues with some of them.

Anyhow, maybe I'll get the N7 for the upcoming Christmas holidays and give the T2 to Mrs. Saptech!

Just a thought!

Asus I believe is still rated number one in quality and does not surprise me being that I am a member of a computer forum and almost never see people asking about issues with Asus, but the amount of acer, dell and hp hardware issues I see is crazy.

I just bought a Asus TF300 a little over a month ago and this thing is far even superior to even my vaio laptop. When I was in best buy picking a tablet to buy the screen quality, options and performance was unmatched to the TF300 for the money plus it was nice how Asus had already released the Jelly Bean update.

I agree. I personally do not have a nexus 7, but I used my friends, and wow...it felt....WOW. Really outstanding build quality. I definitely would not have a problem with them making the next nexus. Samsung is....eh...Samsung just feels cheap. But I'm fairly certain that the next nexus device will be motorola. Google already bought the company, and its the only big player left to experiment on. But hey that's ok, while the design of Motorola phones is a bit ugly, they atleast make solid, durable and well working phones.
