Coolest feature you've found?

I just did this to my S3. After failing to swipe to answer calls numerous times because my hands were either too dirty/greasy working under the car or I'm out doing yard work with gloves on. Using the HOME button to anwser calls works much better than swiping the screen. I don't use voice commands so this is the next best thing. Just check the box under Phone>Menu>Call Settings>Call answering/ending>Answering key. I also use the Power key to ends calls found in the same menu.

My other favorite is using Winamp and turn on the lock screen control so I can control the player from lock screen.

Use TASKER to launch Winamp when my headphone is plug in.

Use "Custom Auto Brightness" app to control auto brightness. The default auto brightness is too bright for me. This app give you total control how bright you want in different lighting levels.

Yeah it wasn't a feature on the early firmwares but the brightness slider was added with one of the updates. I should remember which one as I was corrected when I got out wrong last time but rubbish memory. Hopefully someone else will chime in with the firmware version.

Yes but you have to pull down the notification area to get to it which is a fail if the screen is locked. Display brightness works over the status bar icons (or wherever) even in lock screen or in apps. I'd take away the slider introduced in xxblfb (just for you ;) ) in a heartbeat. Wastes real estate and isn't as good....

I dare you to try it :)

I might be wrong, but I think it was a joke - as you move the phone further away the picture gets smaller because it's further away, zooms in when it's nearer.

There is a feature that zooms in and out with you fingers on the picture but it works by tilting the phone towards you or away from you.

If it isn't working you need to have motion turned on in settings.

Settings > Motion
check the Motion Activation at the top of the menu; toggle the Tilt to Zoom option further down.

setting the motion to tilt works....thanks for the info

tap and hold only gives me the 'select' option and not the tiny magnifying glass. anyone gets this to work??

Yes I get this magnifying glass. I think it is part of the selection function; in the middle of the magnifying glass is the word that is under my finger, and it is highlighted. It is to aid you in selecting text when it is very small.

Sorry I was replying to Evo 5ho's post, I guess you ninja'd me. I couldn't agree more about the slider though, it's completely unnecessary to me (it very rarely shines where I live)
I'll give the app a go in the morning though for curiosities sake. I trust you'll be able to tell me the firmware number when I most likely forget it again:thumb:

i still do not see it. can you provide a screen capture?

There you go. Was kind of tricky to take a screenshot while holding my finger over the text.

With all the concerns about errors and issues with the S3, I thought we could shift to a more positive focus. To that end, what's the coolest thing you've discovered with your S3 that you didn't know about before you got the phone?

For me, I was delighted to see that when you open the video player, the thumbnails for the videos are live: they all play a little loop from the video, all at once. It was a startling effect, and just goes to show the power of the processor, running eight simultaneous video loops at once.

What little thing did you find in your phone?

Didn't realize there was so much wrong with the S3, not a single issue with mine, considering it was a meek $25 upgrade form my S2, no complaints at least and it's hard to keep up with all the features.:)

Accuweather, I believe.

That is odd.

That Accuweather widget is useless. Never auto-updates or updates at some God known frequency. Whenever I tried to refresh, it would take long time and then do nothing. So I removed it and got the 3D Weather widget from Play store and that is great as you can even assign shortcuts to any installed App from the hour and minutes buttons it shows as part of the Widget.

Well the reason we see so many posts about problems with the S3 is because people don't really post about things that are working, they only post when they need advice about something that is not working. I also have not had a single problem with my S3 :)
