Thinking about the S3 is it Better than the iPhone 4S

I am on AT&T and plan to stay on their network, however with all my friends dumping their iPhones for the S3 I am beginning to wonder if I should. I looked at it in the AT&T store but the only thing I am wondering is if I want to spend $550 to buy it out of contract, or $450 for an early upgrade, $200 for the phone, $250 for AT&T letting me do an early upgrade?

I would spend the $550 but apparently AT&T will not unlock it even if I buy it at full price which sucks.

I want a White one, but the wife will not give me her upgrade because now that I am not getting the iPhone 5, she is thinking of getting the GS3 as well?

So is it worth the money, and does anyone know another way for me to get a White one unlocked? I do not mind sticking to an AT&T contract, just that if I am paying full retail, it should be Unlocked.

It's all in the eye of the beholder. You are posting on an android forum so 99% of people are going to say yes. The iPhone is a lot smoother of a phone and more than likely always will be. All in all the s3 is a great phone with many features that blow the crapple device out of the water. I personally have bounced back and forth between iOS and Android for several years. I keep coming back to android because iOS is boring and with every android phone there are so many new and cool features. There will be struggles but if you stick with it I am sure you will find the s3 is a damn good device.

As I said to someone earlier on... Alot of iPhone users hate Android, and visa versa so asking other people won't help you, you'll just have to decide for yourself if you want to see which one is the best for you :)

All I can say is that Android is not as easy to use as the iPhone, but you do do get the hang of it eventually. On Android you can do anything with it unlike iPhone which is locked down. If you feel something is missing on your phone, then there's a big chance a developer would have a made a mod for it (most often requires root but that's simple to do, although some people prefer not to).

I didn't know what to choose between the iPhone 4S and the Galaxy S3, but after using my brother in law's iPhone 4S I didn't like how boring it seemed compared to Android, and I knew then that there was no way I could leave Android, it's too good :D

ofc its better than a iphone. only reason people buy iphones is because they think US has finally made something awesome.

iphones suck. its the same crap every years just very few hardware changes. it wont never be as advanced as an android phone. more as customize able.

apple sucks in general. all the handheld device are the same.

I don't know, the courts say it's an iPhone rip off, so it must not be as good. I guess the rest of us will just have to suffer w/our sub-par, copycat device. :-\

its not a copy cat device or a rip off. its completely different. android ios and apple ios is completely different. plus TouchWiz is different. iphone and gs3 are 2 completely different phones.

apple is just being bitches about the single hardware button in the middle.
they have nothing else to do but pick that out. and what about other phones just like it and the fake iphones. they are brainless ****s that cant make anything but the same shit over and over with few tweaks and hardware changes.

Not to mention, the iphone isn't made in the US.

The S3 is superior to the 4S in every way IMHO. Like others have stated it may even be a iPhone 5 crusher hence that is why apple is going after sammy with every thing they have legally. Because they know the S3 has the i5 beat as well.

It will NEVER be an iPhone 5 crusher as Apple have a VERY loyal customer base just salivating for the next fix - no matter how good or indifferent it is.

If the S3 turns out to be a better phone it will not make the slightest dent on iPhone sales.

With all due respect to the great people I have just met on this forum and who have already replied to you....

Perhaps I am a person you would like to hear from.

A week ago I switched from an iPhone 4 to a Galaxy S3. It was one of the most frustrating decisions I have had to make in quite some time given the fact that I have been an iPhone owner for the past 6 years since its introduction. I am also a hardcore Mac owner who demands that all my devices work in sync with each other.

I made the switch 2.5 weeks prior to the announcement of iPhone 5. It was a risky move, but with all the leaks that have come out about the new phone from Apple, I don't think many are impressed. It's basically the same phone, but taller (not wider). It has the same tired iOS with improvements that Android phones have already.

That's the main reason I wanted to switch to the Samsung Galaxy. I was bored. In fact, I was an avid jailbreaker with iPhone as I enjoyed customizing it as much as possible. With the Android system, there is no need to jailbreak/root to customize to your heart's content.

Am I 100% satisfied with the Galaxy S3? Not quite. I think battery life on this phone is horrendous. Take a look across this forum and you'll see the #1 complaint is battery. I am going to be purchasing a second battery for my GS3, but fear of being laughed at when I change the battery in front of friends. In this age, one shouldn't need to change a battery within a full day's of use. Of course, mileage may vary as many members here claim they have no problems.

If you are a Mac owner, getting everything to sync properly can be done, but with workarounds. Sadly, I lose the convenience of having iOS work perfectly with the Mac OS.

On the other hand, I am doing things with the Galaxy S3 that I never thought of doing on the iPhone. I'm selecting ringtones for individual programs. I am putting Widgets on my various screens. I'm sharing pictures and videos in ways I couldn't before. I even added a 64GB external memory card to my phone -- something the iPhone doesn't even allow.

The only thing I haven

As far as it concerns which phone is faster, more powerful and so, it's definitely the GS3

Today that's true. Next week, I think both phones will be equally as powerful in one respect or another.

But I do agree with the rest of what you said.

Basically, the iPhone is the kind of phone you could give your grandmother and she could easily adapt to it. It's intuitive right out of the box for most people that want to set it and forget it.

Android is for people that like to tinker -- who want a phone customized to look like their own and not like every other iPhone (or Android) people have in their pocket.
