Refer to this thread:
http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-v-4g/610693-evo-v-4g-triumph.html

Basically there is a problem with the phone where texts and calls will not go through from time to time. The way to fix this is to:

Root the phone:
http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-a...ing-evo-v-4g-roms-kernels-using-fastboot.html

Unlock the bootloader (s-off):
http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-all-things-root/558583-s-off-juopunutbear-s-off-beta-release.html

Update the radio for the device among other things:
http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-a...ng-turning-your-phone-into-evo-3d-thread.html

After you do all that the phone is pretty damn solid. There are 3 main ROMs for this phone: Harmonia, Midnight ROM, and Mobster ROM (though Mobster ROM is no longer being developed, it is still very stable).

When it comes to battery life you should be able to make it throughout the day no problem unless you're constantly on your phone. I love this phone and would definitely recommend it.

.

thanks for the info.... :)

i had glanced at that post for changing the phone to 3d, once its rooted, and its coverted, to the 3d... its solid at that point or do i still need to run a cust rom?
am i to assume that doing this is just loading sprints rom on the phone instead of virgin m....?

It is still a Virgin Mobile phone, but what it does is update the radio for your phone so you get better signal. I would personally recommend installing a custom ROM if you're going to root it anyway. Harmonia is know for being very stable and not changing much, so essentially Stock+. Midnight ROM overclocks very well and still keeps the Sense UI intact. Mobster ROM is known for removing the Sense UI and being as close to AOSP (pure android) as possible. Mobster also has Project Butter ported from Android 4.1, but like I said it is no longer being developed so any problems that you run into aren't going to be fixed.

I personally run Mobster because it's stable and I dislike the Sense UI, but try a couple different ones out and see which one suits you. CM10 is being developed, but it is still in alpha and I wouldn't recommend it as a daily ROM.

Nope, it doesn't use a SIM card. None of the Virgin Mobile phones use them.

I have a question for you the OP: How in the world did you run over your phone with a lawn mower? Was it a rider and it fell out of your pocket? did you flip over your mower and throw the ironically named triumph into the spinning blade? HOW?

No it does not have a sim card. VM phones are locked to VM service unless you have them reprogrammed, which isn't something discussed on the forums.

As far as the differences in the Triumph and the EVO....

Personally I liked the Triumph design/weight much better than the EVO.

Other than the form factor of the phone, the EVO is superior in every other way.

The EVO does suffer from the issues mentioned though. I have been pretty deep into helping test/install Android roms on different devices but have not wanted to do it on my EVO. Unfortunately I ran into a situation last week where I needed to use my phone for calls constantly and it basically failed me (over and over not connecting the calls going out).

Tomorrow will be sitting down to root and rom the EVO to get the radio fix in place.

no one makes cases, for the triumph so i bought a generic phone case on amazon for 2.50 the clip is break away(well mostly just fall off all the time, instead of break away) and the clip broke away, phone landed in grass, next thing i know is boom(sounded like a shot gun) still didnt know what happened until i made next pass and saw parts of the 2.50 case on the yard.

the clip was so bad, that at one time i super glued it together, but just a few days before i ran it over the glue failed also. :(

Have you tried a factory reset? :D

someone on the truimph forum suggest i return it to Motorola, not sure how that would work, hey moto... i was just using my phone and it quit working, then ship all the pieces in to moto, with a note this is all the pieces i could find?

I would but i cant find the vol up key and the power button, i will come though the yard some more tomorrow....lol
i just mostly wish i could find the sd card, kinda miss my 32 gig sd card :(

I switched to the EVO when my Triumph took a fatal fall down the basement steps. Glad it's dead.

Never liked the Triumph's blocky lines so I like the way the EVO looks better. I think the biggest difference between the phones is that the touch screen on the EVO actually works. Touch screen on the Triumph was pathetic.

EVO is more stable, never have to pull the battery as opposed to pulling the Triumph battery several times a week.

I thought the 3D camera would get in the way or goof up but I never notice it, just use the camera normally.

I am rooted, S-off, and running Midnight ROM @ 1.7 Ghz. The phone is as stable as a toaster and just keeps on running.

Don't forget the gps, Blutooth, green blob, unresponsive capacitive buttons, atrocious battery life, battery cover constantly falling off, horrible music audio and poor gaming performance. And God only knows how many more that I've fortunately forgotten. CM7 made it barely acceptable for me. Worst phone experience that I've ever had. And don't forget the price! It's best quality was how easily Virgin replaced the damn things. What was I thinking?

Those things are tiny, it probably survived. :) Unfortunately, that also means it could have gotten flung off into the sunset. Maybe check the same general area as where the chunk of the phone that holds the sd card landed?

no, that thing is long gone, i was wondering if they were water proof, was kinda thinking that it my find its way to the rain ditch, next hard rain.

never had any problems with the touch screen. nor did i have problems with the system booting and never had to pull the battery.

3 days before she died, i looked up the uptimer, i had 308 hours, after that she went another 3 day, before she got ate up by the lawn mower.

Once i flashed miui, the thing never had any issues. and ran smoooth

ill give you the gps, it never really worked right, I occasionally had problems with the back capacitive button but i would wipe it on my shirt and it would work fine so i always tossed it up to being dirty.

so far my triumph has been much more stable, so far this evo, has booted at least 2 time a day :(

Did you root your Evo and flash a different radio yet? Unfortunately it's almost a must with this phone. That should clear up any problems. If not, throw a custom ROM on there.

im running midnight,

ive updated all the radios, except for PRL... becasue i updated to midnight before, flashing prl and you cant flash the prl in midnight

Flash to harmonia, update it, flash it back. That's what I did. I would also do the 4g and 3g hacks. I haven't had any problems whatsoever since doing all my tweaks, and I'm running supper smooth at 1.6 ghz
