Now that we've seen the iPhone 5, its time to unleash a newer, leaner, meaner Nexus device!

I think the lack of anticiapation is because all the dev types and root crazy types (us :D) have been pushed into 2 year contracts and already own the current gnex only 9 months into contract. There'll be another megathread next year when everyone bails to a new device.

It'd be nice if vzw still had a one year contract option but those days are gone. And funding a new, highly desired phone off contract is not in the cards for most, even after a modest return on a resale.

Interesting thoughts, So you think we may not see a new Nexus this year?

I do think we'll see one. I just think next year's nexus will get the kind of attention we remember with this phone, a megathread and even greater dev support because so many of us will be in the market for a phone at that time.

When you think about it...IF they still do the early upgrade option (which it seems like is around the 18-20 month mark if offered), then all of us and the Galaxy S3 folks would be in the market for a device around the same time...if it's a late 2103 release which seems to be the trend.

Anyway, that's just my theory. And a side effect of constant phone release offerings while only allowing contracts of a 2 year duration.

True statement^^^

I think it was August even when we first started hearing rumors about the GNex being on VZW.

I'm never owning another Samsung phone again. In fact i'm not planning on buying another Android phone anytime soon. I'm actually buying the wife the I5. Go ahead i can take the flames.

i was going to consider the ip5 however after looking at it, it's just another ip4s but longer... and it has LTE, if they did something to protect the glass that engulfs the phone, then i might consider it, but i think it is apples way of selling more devices because everyone drops a phone at least once.

btw why are you a broncos fan? :p
gonna be a good game on monday :)
GO FALCONS!

The main reason that the megathread last year became so popular was because Verizon, one of the largest carriers, had exclusivity of the device in the US. I highly doubt Google makes that mistake again. I mean, I want all carriers to have it, but it was a bit foolish for them to lock it to one carrier for a short period, especially a carrier that tends to lock down their devices. There's already rumors circulating about Nexus devices from multiple carriers, so I'm very certain that we'll see them surface this year. I'm sure there'll be an announcement from Google or something sometime in October or so.

Well the wraps were taken of the Galaxy Nexus Oct 18 2011, and even though we had tons of leaks andspeculation leading up to it, we never actually knew what it looked like until the actual event...Well except for that crazy pic Samsung posted about the unpacked event that it was being introduced at. But we never really got a clear look at it before hand! I'm hoping for a similar time frame, for the exception of this thing being available pretty quickly instead of waiting for a carrier to drag their feet and then release it.. A la VZW! Hopefully it'll go straight to the Google Play Store and be available fairly quickly unlocked with at&t's LTE bands.

First off I'd like to see a device that is relatively the same size as the Galaxy Nexus, maybe a tiny bit thinner as far as thickness goes, with better battery life, Gorilla Glass 2, a quad core that plays well with LTE, a Super Amoled + 720p HD screen without pentile, a much better internal speaker that doesn't have to be heard in just a quite room, and improved noise cancellation with a louder earpiece. Couple all that with pure Jellybean, and project butter and I'm sold!
I do agree that the internal speaker on the GN is terrible. I would love love love a better internal speaker.

Quad Core + LTE: I think we are a long way from seeing a phone with both given the impact it will have on battery life.

All the other stuff is nice to have, but I do want to make sure that those things don't end up putting the device out of reach in terms of price. The GN is a pretty great device, but one of the best things about it is the $350 price tag for a no-contract, unlocked phone. I don't want gorilla glass and front facing 720p recording or a quad core processor if that means the price goes up. I am happy with either LTE or HSDPA 42 support.

Quad Core and LTE will arrive with the Galaxy Note 2 here in the states. And I think there are a few other manufacturers getting ready to pull the trigger as well, namely LG and HTC.

Note 2 is a much bigger phone with a much bigger battery. But you're asking for the next Nexus to be even slimmer than the current one (and presumably not bigger in other aspects). I'm no expert on battery technology, but I don't see how this gets pulled off without adding significant bulk (and perhaps price).

The HSPA+ version is plenty thin, however if were talking Size and internals and all that...I would gladly take the CDMA sized variant of the Nexus which is a little thicker along with a Quad core and LTE bands.

Though it looks like someone shopped in that ICS logo.

I had a thought the other day, regarding a Motorola Nexus. I don't think its going to happen, and here is why. What is Google's goal with Android? Its not phones. Its Google services, and the revenue that is associated with it. A Nexus device is completely and totally Google without exception. So it stands to reason, it will bring the most money to Google per device than any other. I think Google's aim with the Nexus program, is to get more phones on a pure Google experience, that otherwise wouldn't have it. Motorola, doesn't have that problem. Google owns them, so their phones will already be pretty much purely Google services. No need for a Nexus.

Yea I doubt we'll see a Motorola Nexus anytime soon, if ever! I think Google has really partnered up with Samsung for the time being. I'm anticipating a spruced up Galaxy Nexus 2 this year. Kind of like in the tradition of say, iPhone 4 to iPhone 4s...Spec bumps and maybe a slight hardware change and look.

I think that if there were really to be 5 Nexus devices this year, and one was the N7 and the other was maybe the ill-fated Nexus Q, then the other 3 would likely be Samsung, Sony, and either Motorola, LG, HTC. Since ee've heard of the Galaxy Nexus 2, Xperia Nexus, and Optimus Nexus, it stands to reason that the 3 remaining manufacturers are Sony, LG, and Samsung again. And since the Q isn't in the cards anymore, that leaves us with 4 Nexi rumored and confirmed for the year since the 7 already launched. I do think the RAZR M is as close to a Nexus as we have seen as far as non Nexus devices go, probably since the OG Droid. And if the price wasn't so high for the developers version, I think I'd get one. I'd be open to any Nexus device, but I think I'd shy away from one from LG, unless it's clearly the best of the 3.

Ya never know, LG is having an event on the 19th and so is HTC, but I doubt its about branded Nexus devices from either manufacturer. As for Sony, I just don't see it happening in 2012. I have a feeling the Theory about 5 Nexus devices launching is true, with 2 of them being the 7 and the Q, and that would leave 3 more to be desired and released. However, it very well may be something like a new Nexus phone, but one device built to run on maybe 3 different bands.

iPhone 5 is old news already. they have lost their relevancy as benchmark. the ad is relevant because Android is already two generations, maybe 3 ahead of iPhone.

I definitely think the 5 is at least a generation behind the Android devices that are available right now. And that's why I created this thread to basically converse with other members about what Google will hopefully include in the next Nexus to really put the nail in the coffin.

All in all, I'm really excited to see what the end of 2012 and beginning of 2013 brings...
