Root SGH-T589W wifi problem

I've installed a custom ROM on my Galaxy Q from Wind Mobile in Canada, it's a sgh-t589w. The ROM is for the t-mobile t-589. I can make calls and send texts, and the phone is a lot faster and rooted, but I don't have wifi or 3g.
After some research I determined that it's likely an issue with the driver, bcm4329.ko. There's another post on this forum that links to the samsung open source page for my model, the w. I went on there and built a new kernel and packaged it using koush anykernel. It said it flashed succesfully, but it doesn't indicate that it's using my new kernel. Additionally, I can find two instances of bcm4329.ko on my phone
one is in /lib/modules/ and one is in /system/lib/
there might be others, but those are the two I can locate.
Using root explorer after copying the updated bcm4329.ko to my SD card I have replaced both of those files. When I reboot the phone though I find that my wifi still doesn't work and the file in /lib/modules has been replaced with the original file, although the one in /system/lib still shows my modified file.
I'm completely out of ideas here, does anyone have any troubleshooting ideas or references I can look up? I'd like to know more about installing new kernels, since I think I did something wrong there, and also how to find which bcm4329.ko my phone is actually using and possibly how to direct it to the updated file

Thanks in advance for any help
