Help How do we force verizon GS3 to update PRL?

So I've had my GS3 on Verizon since release day. Yesterday my brother picks up a GS3 on verizon.

At my house I see his gets a stronger signal then me and faster speedtest results. His phone shows about -103db while mine fluctuates from -110 to -120 db. His phone had solid 4G connection all day, while mine kept going back and forth from 3G to 4G.

Comparing hardware/software versions, the only thing different is the PRL which I have 15130 while his is 15154.

So we swapped SIM cards to see if it would make a difference. With his sim card and PRL 15154 in my phone, I started to get -100 to -103 db, and with my sim card in his phone, he was switching between 3G and 4G frequently with 4G near -120 db.

So I'm guessing something in the PRL between 15130 and 15154 improved 4G reception at my house.

Now the question is, how do we get the PRL on my sim updated? In the old 3G days, it was simply dialing *22899 to update PRL, but that doesn't work on the GS3.

I tried to find a way online, and the suggestion to remove sim, reboot, shut down, re-insert sim, reboot. doesn't seem to work. Tried that on both phones with my sim card, didn't update the PRL.

So can anyone help? either identify what's different between the two PRL's or have any suggestions on how to update PRL?

So after spending 1/2 day on the phone with various verizon tech support reps, they say there are only two ways to update PRL on the sim card.

1) Wait for it to auto update via random interval anywhere from 90 to 180 days.
2) Get a new SIM card.

They are going to send me a new SIM card free of charge this time.

This is supposedly from a tier 3 support rep.
