[Verizon] [rom]jbsourcery v5.4-lte[06/07/13] jb4.2.2 The Final Call

Okay, let me make a nandroid and work on this... back in a bit with results...

Once more the proud guinea pig!

Unfortunately, JBSourcery again was buggy for me and I've got to jump ship once again. Which is a shame because the dev team and the work they've all put into this ROM are simply stunning. Here's to hoping that Team Sourcery can sustain their quality, and more importantly, their class. Cheers!

Any chance of letting us know what these bugs were so we can look into them.

Any chance of letting us know what these bugs were so we can look into them.

1 - Battery remaining percentage. On the lockscreen, the battery percentage never matched my actual percentage remaining. It was always 10-15% off, or if the actual charge was below 20%, the lockscreen percentage would just read 0%. I had this same issue when I was running JBSourcery 1.0. Not a big deal to most, but it always bugs me

2 - LightFlow was not working for me on JBSourcery, nor were the built-in LED settings. LightFlow would work for a few hours, then stop working and I wouldn't be able to see the LED flash despite having an email, or text, or etc... The built in settings always had the LED flashing, whether the screen was on or off, had a notification or not. I need the LED to work so that when I'm at work, I know if it's urgent or not.

3 - Battery life. I know this one's a complaint for everyone on every ROM, but I've had better life on other ROMs. The idle drain on this was pretty ugly. Could be the kernel, I don't know, but something wasn't working.

As much as I want this ROM to work, there's a few bugs that, for lack of a better word, bug me. For the record, I was using Lean Kernel 4.4stable and with no kernel mods. I've also never dirty flashed any ROM, ever.

I hope the devs don't take this negatively as I really do like the ROM and am not trying to badmouth them or anything, just a list of things that for whatever reason weren't working for me. Hopefully only good will come from this.

Well, this _might_ be a bit OT for this thread, but I would like to address viper689 and everyone else's 'battery life' issues before I post again my feature request(s). I should almost post this in my own thread. . . .

For this phone, spend the extra $40 (or less if you can, I got it for ~ $35 on eBay) for the OEM spare battery and charger kit. I have been doing this for the last seven years with all my phones. I have always got phenomenal battery life by doing this (and on this phone I have got 48hrs on ICS roms and 36hrs on JB roms). Having a spare battery charging in a battery only charger, when the battery dies in your phone, switching it out with your fresh battery is immensely better for all your battery lives. Last point. THAT LITTLE USB PORT ON YOUR PHONE IS FOR HACKING ONLY!!! If you use it to charge your battery as well, your battery will not charge nearly as well and you WILL prematurely wear out the contacts. Just sayin' . . . and IMHO.

p.s. @viper: I'm on 2.3 and when it's all properly set up (though it does take some experimenting), I don't have any problems with the native LED and Lightflow notifications.

OK, I feel like I'm almost a broken record in this. I'm still on 2.3, haven't tried any of the 2.3.x, but haven't had any answer about the WiFi text option for % instead or in addition to -dBm.

And while I'm at it, is there any way to get any 'previews' in the fonts section? Right now I use FontInstaller, since it does offer this, so no big deal.

But I hope I'm not squeaking too much, but my WiFi % request has not been responded to in the last; what two, three, four times?

p.s. Chizzle, you look to be a Jeeper.

ok we keep track of every request. We just dont reply to every request unless we have a for certain answer. so on the % not at this time but its on our list to look at.

the fonts are all previews wait for it to populate and the font name comes up as it will look.

the % on lock screen wont match unless you use stock battery %.

i use the led in the rom and it works good for me.
if you install lightflow there are probably conflicts. but if you jsut leave our stuff off and use light flow people say it works. but understood.

I have great battery life on the gsm and lte phones. but it varies for people.

Thanks for trying it. have fun with whatever you use thats the object of all this.

I've been wanting to do that but on most rom/kernel combos I don't have to. Even on Sourcery, it has some of the best on screen time that I've seen. It's the idle time that seems to drain it like while I'm sleeping. Believe me I've seen much worse battery time on other roms. That was the smallest of my issues here.

I do use the stock battery.

I had LightFlow disabled when trying the native, but it just wouldn't stop flashing.

Again, I've seen much much worse battery life on other roms, so don't worry about that. Like you said, it varies

wierd i dont have the flashing on either phone.

maybe im backwards and need non stock battey in magic control for it to be close. but ive seen this before stated i havent seen it but seldom get my battery below 15%.

but it happens. on my droid i could not run cm. it rebooted, locked up got hot you name it seems some roms just dont like some phones.

as i said thanks for giving it a run. you got to go with what does what you need.

Re: the lightflow issue...I had some issues in the early going with that app but have had no issues on the last several builds. Check your settings at the Sourcery Control Panel > LED Control and make sure selected app = default. Go ahead and use the on/off settings there. ( i use on 1 sec, off 2 secs). Leave the flash led while screen on setting at off.

If you ever mess with the "selected app" option and try to make it lightflow, it gets jacked up. Just some thoughts to try keeping you in the game. Sounds like the led thing is your biggest hangup viper.

If you recall the symptoms: BT headset will not initiate music playback until it is first done on the phone. It will then pause/play for a time, but times out after awhile and the phone must be used to control music again. Not sure if it's a Jelly Bean issue or a JBSourcery issue.

I volunteered to wipe the phone, flash a different ROM, and attempt to duplicate the problem. If it still doesn't work, it's a JB issue... if it DOES work, then there is likely something in JBSourcery's coding that is stopping that initial play command.

if you have time and want to that would be great. but its up to you but would help if it is good somewhere else id have something to look at .

thanks.

RESULTS:

Okay Dear Developers, Here's what I did:

  • Wiped the phone (data, system, cache, dalvik)
  • Flashed XenonHD v15 (JR003R) & Gapps
  • Installed Titanium Backup and froze Apollo so ONLY Google Play was on the phone
  • Paired the BT headset & powered it down
  • Put the phone in standby (screen off)
  • Powered up the BT headset and let it connect
  • Hit Play

And the music started right up!

So, just to REALLY check, I powered down the headset AND rebooted the phone. I wanted this thing isolated. Phone came back up, I powered up and connected the BT headset and hit play.

And the music started right up! :(

Sadly, that sort of proves that it's not a Jelly Bean issue, but rather something in JBSourcery. Like I've said: don't kill yourselves staying up late, trying to track this thing down and fix it... it's just a minor nuisance having to turn on the phone and hit PLAY that first time (or PAUSE after a time period I haven't measured).

But I did want to let you know that it DOES work on other ROMs.

Kinfolk, this is a full ROM with 4.1.2 elements...

Wipe wipe wipe!

Question for the developers: I downloaded 4.2 and both versions of Gapps... but only the regular Gapps is showing up in the Sourcery Tools folder. Where is the inverted Gapps going? I can't find that booger anywhere!

EDIT: NVM, found it in Sourcery Tools with Root Explorer. Not sure why Astro was being so squirrelly...

Anyway, backups are done, wiping & flashing now!

No what I was asking was if the 4.1.2 rom would be a full rom or a patch? I know to wipe with full roms...
