GS3 Case discussion thread

Why do you even need a credit card when you have Google Wallet and NFC?

I am assuming that's the point of the case. It can be used for your drivers license and other forms of identification, not for tons of credit cards and money.

Once google wallet becomes mainstream we will have no need for bulky wallets holding tons of cards. Just the essentials.

Your wallet must look very different from mine. Or at least your needs are very different from mine. I have a couple of credit cards. Why would anyone need more unless they have them all ran up to the limit. But I do have quite a few other cards. My driver's license, a couple of other ID cards, 2 or 3 store membership/discount cards, and 2 or 3 insurance related cards. I can imagine someone being able to get by without a few of those cards but most normal adults have at least one of each of them, minimum. I also always carry a few extra business cards. And then there's that old favorite called cash. Unless I have a very specific destination where I know exactly what I'll need, and for some reason I'm not wearing pants with pockets, I always carry a wallet. I can't remember the last time I didn't have any pockets in my pants...Must have forced that time out of my memory.

Hey I just heard about these guys the other day they have a website http://www.bakcases.com

I agree with you about the cards rubbing on the screen and that is why I like them and the quality seems nice do you have one yet?? I couldnt find any reviews so they must be very newbut Im prob gonna order one in the next few days because it seems like a great idea for a case!

The original supplier backed out at the last moment, so they are waiting for new manufacturer to get them produced, probably first of Nov. now before I get mine.

It would be a good grab and go type wallet and isn't there an app to store all of your store discount cards in now???

*I have read through this thread, but cannot tell from descriptions or pictures if the cases are what I want*

Ok, I am looking for a case that is a little more form fitting and slim than my Speck Candyshell I bought when I first got the phone. This thing is just to bulky and gets scratched up and ugly. I need something that would look good with blue. Protection is also very important. I hate rubber cases, and would rather have a hardcase.

Thanks!

Edit: I would like to keep it under 30 bucks

I think this would fit your criteria...this is a great case!

It would also be in your budget.

Yea I'm quite the minimalist type in life. If I don't absolutely need it, then I don't usually have it. When I used to have phone cases that worked as a wallet I left most of my money and things at home. Or I would keep a wallet and put the cards I use the most on my phone.

Yes, there may be an app for that. But the store would still be required to have the ability to read the card using NFC. My local Costco doesn't have that. I doubt that the couple of grocery stores where I use a card do either. Or at least I've never noticed that they do. Regardless, that only accounts for a few of the cards in my wallet. It wouldn't work for my other cards that have magnetic strips that I always carry. And my ID cards also have my picture on them that I'm required to show. To each their own. I don't think my situation is particularly unusual.

I understand that there are people with different needs than mine. I think the key here is in the words, "Absolutely need." If I'm out of the house I always want to have my medical cards for me and my teenage children. On several occasions I've been out, either at work or wherever, and I've had to pick one of my kids up from school or even from a friends house and take them to the doctor/hospital. My kids are very active and sometimes they get hurt or sick. Stitches, broken elbow, broken hand, broken ankle, etc. A few months ago I needed my VA card because I got a scratched cornea at work. Not having my medical/VA cards at those times would've been a huge inconvenience, downright irresponsible to be honest. I can't imagine paying for everything I ever buy with a credit card only. I almost forgot about my AAA card. I don't use it often but if I don't carry it with me I can't get the service when I need it. I might as well not pay for it if I don't carry the card with me. I can't predict when I'll need any of my cards that I carry other than the store discount cards and I rarely leave the house solely for the purpose of going to one of those stores. So leaving them, or any of the other cards at home unless I know I'm going to need them isn't really an option for me. And it also looks pretty unprofessional to have a customer ask for a business card and have to tell them, "Sorry, I didn't think anyone would ask for one so I left them at home."

My wallet isn't bloated with cards and cash. It's a normal single fold style with the clear plastic insert. I keep it as thin as I can, but for me, there's no possible way I could get by with only three tiny slots in a phone case without being severely inconvenienced on a fairly regular basis. Come to think about it, I don't think I know any adults that could. Different strokes...

Your absolutely right, wallet cases aren't for everyone. I am a college student so my needs are much different than yours. Something like The Bak Case works really well for me as I don't really need a lot. But for someone as busy as you, I think a wallet would best suit your needs.

Ya i think the overall point is that it is a good case for those who dont carry much on average, the forgetful, or those who just want to go out like college students...and dont want to bring too much out...i think a case like this depends on the person but it is a cool idea and there r tons of cases out there to choose from so if it doesnt fit ur needs find one that does or find a cool case and carry a wallet :)

For those keeping score, I am loving the Seidio Active Combo.......

My previous Incipio was very similar, but the color scheme of the Seidio works much better with my Pebble Blue S3. Just really looks sharp and gives better access to the S3 buttons.

BTW, if you have an Incipio Dual Pro, the Seidio holster would work fine with it.

The only downside.... The Seidio Active seems to be a bit more slippery than the Incipio Dual pro, although longer term I don't see this as an issue.

What color Seidio case did you get? I am looking to get the larger memory version which is only in two colors, blue and white. Wish red was an option on Big Red.

I am torn between the Otterbox Commuter and this case. I currently have an HTC incredible (over two years old) with an Otterbox and after the second month I swear the case saved an inner water experience (IE: Went for a swim). Could have been the case or pure luck.

However the current case/phone together are 11/16" thick, 2 9/16" wide and 4 15/16" tall. I was kinda hoping that while I was gaining height and width with the naked phone, I might be able to drop some thickness even with a protective case.

I need a protective case because I do sports, have kids that play with the phone and tailgate. ;) The Commuter has served me VERY well, but I am not to keen on the colors and thought the Seidio might be a nice jump but I still need the protection.

UPDATE: Now they say not before Christmas-somebody really screwed the pooch, and it wouldn't be too bad but the owner was doing the "couple more weeks" thing for a 2 months, now not til end of year, if then. If Verizon ever gets an electronic wallet working, I won't care at all anymore...

My current and favorite case. It has a hard inner shell that fits the GS3 perfectly, and a soft silicone cover that clips to the inner shell. No slipping when you pick it up, protected if it's dropped. My only complaint is where the micro USB plug goes you have to remove some plastic which is easy to do. Kick stand works horizontal or vertical. Silicone plugs for the earphone jack and micro USB. All that for $2.30, shipped! :D

Hopefully this will help someone out that might be looking for the same info as it was something I wondered about but couldn't find much info on it when I picked up the Seidio Surface case last week.

So, I just wanted to add a Kudos on this case as far as moderate drop-protection is concerned. The phone slipped from my hand as I was walking down Main Street at the Magic Kingdom last week. My arm was in "mid-sway" going forward as it launched out of my hand. So I'd say about 2 feet above ground + the 2 feet or so that it flew in front of me before impacting, tumbling, crashing, flipping, etc., on the ground for about another 2 feet. It was NOISY enough that I was afraid there'd be damage to the phone, especially considering that my wife's S3 suffered a crack from a straight face-down drop from about 3 feet with a TPU case.

Well, I'm happy to report the phone survived without a scratch, as did the case.

I'm looking for a case for my S3 and I want the following:
-hard plastic case (prefer not to have silicone but a combo may work depending on how it's put together)
-belt clip for case/phone to snap into

I'm considering the Otterbox Defender and Ballistic SG Maxx. Are there any others out there I should put on the list? The two above have a bunch of silicone and this tends to stick inside my pants pocket when I try to remove the phone (when I'm not using the belt clip).

Thanks in advance.
i have the Otterbox Defender and it's an amazing case, strong and really protective.

surprisingly i don't drop it anymore, maybe simply because i ain't scared to
