Hi i updated my s3 today to jelly bean as i am on 3 and have noticed a drop in my benchmark scores using antutu , on ics i was getting scores of 12400 to 12500 but since jelly bean update has been between 12000 and 12200.
Do you think jellybean is slower or its an app problem as the app does seem to run slower since update.
cheers

They're pointless. Mean nothing. Waste of time.

Obviously they test the phone during certain tasks and show what is quicker and as with computers benchmarks show a level of performance.
So do you have a better reason or a way of explaining why there pointless or mean nothing or a waste of time as to me not meaning to be rude but your reply is pointless and a waste of time because it explains nothing.

They're pointless because they don't reflect real world usage. A faster benchmark does not mean a faster device. They rely on so many variables to give a result that there is no consistency.

Android manages itself for optimum user experience. This is often detrimental to benchmarks. A benchmark tests how fast a piece of software can control hardware to go through these "tasks" you mention. However, the software may well be optimised to run the hardware in a different, more efficient and better way that a benchmark can't monitor.

All you should be concerned about is if the device feels slower or not...

Computer benchmarks are also useless.

You were meaning to be rude by the way.

Ok so your a mind reader also thanks for a better reply and for your information I wasn't being rude just sarcastic as your first reply wasn't really helpful at all

You can also run 10 Benchmarks with the same app and get 10 different results.

That is obvious as the phone could be using different features or tasks etc each time the benchmark was run I'd only expect it to get exactly the same or close if it was run in near on identical conditions.
Only reason I asked the question in the first place was because the results have been a lot lower since jelly bean and very varied were as with ics they were all near enough the same so wondered if it was the app or jelly bean causing the differences.

Cheers for reply what benchmark tester did you use?

A few, Browsermark, CF Bench, Quadrant, Geekbench, GLBenchmark and others I can't remember.

None of them reported any increases, jellybean is a great update because of the improvements in performance of the interface. But the Galaxy S3 with Touzhwiz never needed any improvements in that department and feels exactly the same with Jellybean and ICS.

Unsure about Google Now, disabled it.

So i live in denmark and just recently installed the 4.1.1 JB update, just for the fun of it i tested out quadrant, got a score of 5038, when i was running ICS i got a score around 5600-5700.

So i was just wondering what other peoples experince have been after installing JB, im guessing its just down to either the new OS eating up more resources or something like that.

Its not like i have had a drop in performance or anything noticable like that, was just curious about other peoples score ;)

Be lucky you are getting over 5k. I get typically between 4600-4800 on 4.0.4. Only time I ever been over 5k on Quadrant is when I first got the phone and it had no user apps on it yet.

Mine is always over 5k on quadrant even with loads of apps installed but did notice a drop since jelly bean.

But would that be because mine is quad and not duel

Same as me mate am thinking the jellybean just uses more of the phones resources which is why it gives a lower score.
