Root playback not supported on device?

I am currently running mobster v rom and I rented a movie from the play store and when I went to watch it it said playback not supported on this device. It also won't let me download it. I don't know if it does this with the stock rom also. Is there a easy fix for this or a way around this I would really like to watch this movie I just paid for haha.

seriously? you can't watch it because the phone is rooted? are they trying to encourage piracy??? if this is true almost certainly more people will just download from another "illegal" source than un-root their phones. which sucks because if it did work more people could actually pay for the movie.

but i'm still not sure i believe it, just doesn't make sense on google's part to do that. maybe they are scared having root lets you copy the movie easier... but also stupid because honestly how hard is it to find a copy of any movie you want illegally online? i think this is the least of their issues.

I discussed this at great length with Google tech support and they replied that because movie rental is still relatively new to the Play Store that the team is currently assessing whether to support rooted devices. They said that the biggest concern wasn't piracy but the difficulty of providing support for non stock phones. Bottom line for now is don't wait too long before requesting a refund otherwise it might be denied and you're left paying for content that you were unable to use.

Welcome to the mind of Hollywood. They were also the geniuses behind SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA.

They get together and talk about how to make watching movies harder and less user friendly by adding drm unskipable ads and the like.

But the pirates never see any of it... Great minds they have Hollywood...
