IS Galaxy Nexus really good ?

It would help to know which Galaxy Nexus, the GSM Google version or the CDMA (Verizon, Spring) version. The two phones have quite a few differences, with the CDMA version seemingly having more issues.

I have a GSM Nexus and have really been happy with it. I'd also suggest possibly going back and finding the other similar threads and reading what has been said.

I have the CDMA/LTE version on Verizon. I hated it for the first few months. It would drop my calls and loose signal about 10 times a day. But once Jelly Bean (4.1) came out it fixed all the problems i was having and now i absolutely love it.

Just a heads up if on Sprint or Verizon i know at Sams Club they have the CDMA/LTE version for only 99 cents. Not sure if that is everywhere but it should be.

Odds are that the next one is coming out in a few weeks, so best to wait for that (unless you're planning on exploiting some sort of price drop). It'll leave this one in the dust in terms of pretty much everything.

I'll be interested in what specs are announced for the new Nexus (and if there is more than one). The specs released for the rumored LG Nexus aren't really much better than the current Nexus (at least, IMHO) and, for the price, the current Nexus might still be the better buy.

Still, not a bad idea to wait and see what is announced and what the pricing is, and how that might effect pricing on the Galaxy Nexus. Of course, if he is buying the current Nexus for $.99, it isn't likely to drop much below that price. ;) Especially as we don't know if the new Nexus will be available on Verizon or Sprint.

Love my Galaxy Nexus GSM. JellyBean been a treat . But now I have installed a custom Rom , ParanoidAndroid 2+ and love this phone even more. All the sick customizations and its just rock solid. Not upgrading my Nexus for awhile, untill the next Generation Nexus phones comes out !!

I've had mines for a week and I love it. The only thing that sucks is going from LTE to HSPA+. The Google Now search sometimes wont load or will take a while. However, I don't use it much so its not THAT big an issue. The phone runs incredible smooth, love the animations and switching between apps. Camera is also cool. Good battery life and for whatever reason it charges incredibly fast, which is awesome.

Overall I am very satisfied. I will be within my 15 day return period come until early November, so I will consider returning it for the next Nexus only if I can get LTE coverage AND the price of the new one isn't ridiculously high. Otherwise, I'll stick with my Gnex.

Except for the quad core processor that's more efficient than the S3 and which comes with a significantly more powerful GPU, the battery life that won't suck, and the build quality which will no doubt be a mile ahead..

And at above, you can't say the battery life is good. Barely 4 hours actual usage from 100% to 0, and with normal usage it hardly makes it through the day.

Honestly, the battery on this is terrible. I'm thinking the next one, with an LCD screen, more efficient components and the bigger battery ought to get at least 5 hours screen time, perhaps more.

ParanoidAndroid

PER-APP-COLOR, Paranoidandroids newest invention. Define apps in your regular hybrid panel (same that allows you to scale apps individually and choose their interface). See your phone fade into the color definition of your current app, press home or go elsewhere and it fades back. Create as many combinations you like, you can even dabble with opacity. This feature is made possible by our hybrid engine, which is unique to this rom.

I LOVE THIS ROM! And yes, it's based on JellyBean 4.1.2! I'll never go back to stock again.

I think the GNex is a great phone. I looked at the S III with thoughts of upgrading, and passed. If I had a two year old phone and wanted the best phone out there, I would go for the S III unless the true Google experience was important to you. And if you don't know what that is, then it ain't important. But if you need long battery life, look elsewhere. The battery life is not horrible, but just not good. People always tell me that if you do this or if you do that it will make it better. My only response is that I never had to do this or that with any other phone to get good battery life.
Happy hunting.

Of course I can.

Battery life is subjective to the user. Always has been.

I'm getting 10-12 hours of battery life a day, for how I use it.

To me that is good battery life.

I got mine from Google and I could not be happier with it.

The shortest battery run-down was about 6.75 hours. I used it for geocaching (google maps satellite and the geocache application) google nav, and a couple of streaming movies. All the stuff that runs in the background and syncs was switched on at the same time. The GPS was more accurate - -by about 15 feet - than my friend's iPhone.

I'm using 4.1.2 and can't really tell if the battery life is any better or worse than 4.1, but on a typical day I get about 12 hours between charges.

I use this with StraightTalk - pretty much the best deal out there.

The only reason I'd buy a 'better' phone is if it came with a flying car.

Since it's come out, it's clear that the Nexus 4 is definitely better. The design is absolutely stunning and it looks incredibly sturdy, not to mention it's just a lot more refined.

I would say that fforghorn, who got 6.75 hours on the shortest run, hasn't ever watched a feature-length film on it or tried to kill some serious waiting time with some games on it.

ffoghorn did, indeed, watch two feature length films on the same charge as a geochacing run. With background syncing on.

ffoghorn has not, however, tried to kill some serious waiting time with games.
