Root Case swap fiasco...**WORKING**

So, I decided I wanted a *WHITE* EVO V 4G. I already had the "stock" one, so I went on ebay, and was able to find a complete HTC EVO 3D *WHITE* housing.

After watching the videos on replacing a broken digitizer and/or LCD screen (replete with using heat gun to dislodge same), I "chickened out" on trying to move my "stock" screen/digitizer to the White case. I located a replacement digitizer / screen assembly.

Thus, with a new housing, digitizer, LCD in hand, I decided to proceed.

I attempted to swap cases. The new housing had the LCD/digitizer adhesive "pre-installed". I had no problem routing the digitizer ribbon cable to the proper opening. I then affixed the screen/digitizer assembly into place. Several minutes later, I realized, in panic that I had forgotten to remove the tape holding the two screen ribbon cables in place. To make matters worse, as I was trying to "fish them through" (without removing the digitizer/LCD assembly, I ripped one of the cables in half...Swell, no chance things would work in the new case...Good thing I still had the old case / digitizer / LCD.

I returned all the parts to the "stock" housing. Now, when I boot, all I get on the screen is white static pattern (photo attached). .

Did I damage my "stock" screen in the process? I've disassembled & reassembled it several times to make sure I didn't have a loose ribbon cable.

Anyone know if I've damaged the motherboard? If I get a new LCD will it "come back" and start working again?

It is no big deal (~$60 for another new screen is much less than $300 for a new phone). I don't want to waste $60 if the cause is lost..

The phone seems to function otherwise. It rings when I call it. The "soft" buttons at the bottom cause the thing to vibrate--recognizing that I press them, etc...

I'm no expert in this type of situation, but i'll throw in my two cents.
Is the ribbon cable used for the LCD in the picture damaged at all? Or was the damaged one to the other LCD?

No apparent damage to either LCD ribbon cable in the unit shown in the picture. I have tried several times unhooking & re-hooking to ensure they are aligned and seated properly...

I've sent 3 customer's phones out for repair in the past 3 weeks for that same exact screen, two today in fact. One was on a Razr, and the other two were on Samsung devices. Somehow the phone's GPU has either failed, or was damaged.

Just for comparison purposes, this is what it looks like when a computer's video card has failed.

Same thing.

The phone itself will function just fine. It's what's displayed. If the screen wasn't getting an image pushed to it - the symptom of a damaged or unseated cable, the screen would likely be black. It looks like damage to the video/graphics hardware itself that's responsible for processing what's on the screen.

In other words, a new LCD isn't going to do anything for you.

Thank you for all the replies...I decided to give the HTC One V a spin...For half the $$$, it is a sweet device! Sure, no EVO V 4G, but good enough for me, at half the price! Just wish there were a larger hacking community for that handset....

Now, to teach myself how to hack the rom...Need to figure out how to switch the battery so it shows the % in the bar at the top...Then how to load the enhanced power menu....

OK, so I got a replacement digitizer & LCD assembly. I moved all the parts to the white housing, and <RATS!> same behavior. Oh yeah, kind of messed up the light on the buttons on the bottom...Oh well, as long as the rest works!

However, with Cyber Monday pricing ($149.99), I ordered another EVO V 4G handset to "try, try again..."

I decided I like my HTC One V better, so I am selling this handset. If interested, it is

listed on eBay...

Good job! I replaced my digitizer on mine a while ago and realized that my buttons didn't all light up either. The replacement digitizers don't come with the pieces required to carry the light from the diode to the button. If you find your old digitizer, you can peel off the plastic pieces on the back of each button and stick them onto the new one.
