Help Uploading pictures to Facebook. Rotated?

When I upload a landscape-oriented picture to facebook, it shows up fine. However, when I upload a portrait-oriented picture to facebook, it's always sideways. Anyone else have this happening?

I just hate having to log on to the full facebook site when I'm on the go just to rotate a stupid picture. It's annoying.

I've tried rotating the picture prior to uploading, but it doesn't fix the issue. And the pictures show up right-side-up in the gallery, but once they upload it's wrong. Anyone?

Yes. I recall someone said if you crop the picture then upload it, it works.

I just upload then go into the facebook full site using my dolphin HD browser and pull up the picture there and rotate it. Not the best solution, but it works for the occasional time I need it.

As far as I know, that's the solution for now. Haven't tried cropping it first though.

Cropping it worked. i didn't actually have to cut out a chunk of the photo, I just "cropped" the full pic and resaved. Not the perfect solution, but it sure beats opening the browser.

Thanks.

I go into "edit" and rotate the photo there... not just rotating the phone physically.

Yes, going in to "edit" and rotating the picture does not work. Did you really think I was just flipping the phone around in my hands? :D

I suppose this place has filled up with plenty of noobs lately (not a bad thing), guess you can never be too sure...

i just always take my pics in landscape mode......what is so hard about that? I'm tired of seeing people in my news feed on FB with pics sideways.

Nothing hard about that, unless the photo you're taking works better in portrait, then there's an issue. Going Landscape-Only isn't a "solution", but thanks.

I'm annoyed by sideways pictures as well, hence my search for a real solution. Seems as though cropping is the way to go.

What you may not realize is that in widescreen setting, the camera is only taking a 6mp picture. If you go to camera: settings: picture resolution and change the setting to Large (8mp), you will get a better resolution photo in the correct "portrait" format that you are looking for.

No one is talking about widescreen. You brought that up.

People just want to take portrait oriented pictures and the uploaded rotated correctly on facebook.

Just like tropynuts suggested here, in another one of these threads, someone also said that you are only supposed to take pictures only in landscape. That's truly a ridiculous notion.

Nope. I have had that setting (8mp) set for a long time, but still have problems with uploading the pictures to fb. Definitely not what's going on here.

I just downloaded Adobe's "Photoshop Express". It allows me to rotate them there and then it will upload it to facebook for me. Pretty cool program. I downloaded for this purpose alone and it has been very useful for that purpose..

I was never able to get Photoshop Express to work with my facebook account. It would never load the page for automatic approval for uploads from the app. I would still have to log into facebook and approve the photos. I haven't tried that in a while though, perhaps the issue has been fixed.

For me, cropping is the best solution so far. It's just a little easier for me than rotating, and I don't have to tax my brain trying to figure out which direction to rotate the picture.

Ideally, I'd like to not have to rotate or crop anything. As another person said, only facebook has this issue. If I take a picture in portrait and upload to picassa it's totally fine. The phone knows which way the picture is supposed to go, but apparently whatever bit of software actually handles the upload to facebook doesn't utilize that information. We shouldn't have to rotate our pictures before uploading, and we certainly shouldn't have to only take pictures in landscape, because that's beyond ridiculous.

I have the same issue. When I upload via MMS to a friend, it is sent in landscape mode, rotated 90 degrees from the original picture. I take a LOT of pictures in portrait mode and this is annoying. I wonder if it has to do with the actual sms app that we are using?

I hate the SMS/MMS messaging options for Android... especially the ability to group chat with iphone users... and now I get to be the ass hole uploading sideways pictures... aaaah

I agree with everyone who said this is a simple thing and why can't they fix it. It is an Android system problem, I think, and not specific to any device because I have been looking for a solution for some time and it applies to Samsung and Motorola and I know my HTC Thunderbolt did the same thing.

I don't think we should have to edit something we took a picture of if we took it the way we wanted it. I make sure I have the camera like it is supposed to be and it flips itself around at will after the picture is taken. Today it uploaded some documents I photographed to Evernote upside-down. Naturally, I tried to turn the phone over thinking something had flipped out again and it didn't change the camera.

It does it on it's own. I can photograph 5 docs to the same upload in Evernote or Springpad or whatever and 2 of the 5 will be sideways. Sure, I can zoom in, but I cannot rotate it after I uploaded directly to a new note in Evernote. And it is a total pain in the butt because everything else is laid out so nicely when I play through a note that is entirely made of photographed documents. It pisses me off.

Android system people - please fix this!!!
