Do you know if the nexus 7 32gb 3g can be

For me- I don't talk a lot but it'd be nice to text straight from the tablet. Also, if your phone dies you could just swap your sim over. My plan ($30, 100 minutes, unlimited, 5 gigs of 4g) would be a great TABLET/phone plan. My best bet to use that in a "tablet" would be a Note.
I'm not a VOIP fan but you could use the 3g Nexus with that.

Data. Being 3g has nothing to do with phone capabilities.

Actually people on XDA say the opposite. The only thing is that the stock ROM will most likely not allow voice calls. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1958686

I've actually been searching about this today. I was planning on getting a Nexus 4 (16GB) for $350. Then I realized that the Nexus 7 (32GB with cell radio) costs $300. I am now considering getting a Nexus 7 as a phone (if it would work well). I don't make that many phone calls and when I do I can use bluetooth so I don't actually have to hold the tablet to my face.

I can't really justify wasting money on a tablet otherwise. I already have a phone that does the exact same stuff. If I need something bigger and better than a phone I have a computer. I don't want to waste money on a device that doesn't actually give me anything that is needed.

I could get a bigger screen and more storage space for less money. It seems like a good idea. I'm not exactly sure how much of a hassle it would be lugging around a 7" phone. Maybe I should get a 16 GB Nexus 7 just to carry it around to see if it would work. Hey, now I have a reason to buy one! Haha. What do you guys think?

Let me clarify what I meant. I meant that 3g is referring to data transfer speeds. If a device is 3g or 4g it has nothing to do with voice calls. If the Nexus has a phone antenna and you can activate the phone software, then yes, it could be used as a phone. With the help of bluetooth since it doesn't have a mic or speaker in same places as a phone.

How has your experience been with GrooveIP on the N7?

I liked it a lot using on my cell fone abroad. How is the tablet version?

It's the exact same application. There are some bluetooth call issues with the Nexus 7. I'm not sure if they have been fixed. You may have trouble using a bluetooth headset to make calls.

That means you have to use the N7 as a speakerphone or connect a wired headset to make calls. I'm not sure if wired headsets with built in microphones work. You may have to speak into the N7's microphone.
