Root Stock EL29 Rom with wifi hack now working!

Have you looked on XDA? I remember seeing a couple of ROMs on there with only root and hotspot.

Its Alive!

Not knowing how I could go from EL13 to EL29 I just unrooted using the E4gtauto file (plugged in my phone and used option B to unroot). I then installed the EL29 update that has been bugging me for the past few weeks and If anyone wants step by step of the rest follow the list below.

A. Root your phone.
[ODIN][TAR] SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097 (EL29 Modem/Kernel/ROM - Full Restore - Rooted) - xda-developers
How to Root the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch on EL29 - YouTube
1. Start with Kies and phone drivers.
2. Then download Odin.
3. Finally download EL29 (i used the preserve)
4. pretty much follow the video.

B. Install CWM it can be found in the xda link above.

C. Here is the Hack
[ACS][Mod][EK02][EL13][Deodex][Odex]Hotspot Mod Now With 4G!
Download on your computer and upload to your phone. Once on your phone use cwm to unzip it. after it is Unzipped and installed perform a reboot in CWM. It should work after that. If you used stock EL29 then use the Odexed EL29 hack.

Really excited about this since I came from an EVO which was extremely easy to get the wifi to work and now its working great on the E4GT.

Thanks for the video guide. I'm new to the android scene, so tentative about rooting my new handsets. On the XDA link, the process says "All your Android data will be reset." But the NODATA package will preserve user data. What can I expect to loose? (Wondering about the upcoming ICS update.) Thanks.

ps: just referring to rooting enough to add the hotspot hack. Not looking at CWM yet.

Im a bit confused by what I am reading in the site that has the wifi hack link. On the 4th page, second to last topic, a user rooted his phone, loaded the odexed el29 verision, but is getting errors when trying to run the hotspot app. QBKing77 responds with "You'll need to install a custom rom that has the hotspot hack built in." I thought that after you loaded the el29 odexed file, you would be good to go? My phone is currently rooted, and im using wifi tether but can only do adhoc, my prior phone was like yours the evo4g and tethering in infrastructore mode was a piece of cake...any help is appreciated.. thanks

I wouldnt have added the hack if it wasnt required. So there should be no confusion. This is how to add the wifi hack to a stock rooted rom.

is it required to clear dalvik/cache before loading the wifi hack?

Not sure if it's specifically required, but it definitely helped my connectivity. The free (ad driven) version of Rom Explorer can do it for you.

I'd also recommend a nandroid backup as soon as possible.
