DROID Update "broke" my phone!

Here's the outcome. ..... I went to Verizon and the couldn't save my contacts. They just hard rest the phone... I got back the couple Gmail contacts I had, but lost the rest. The 2.1 did install with the reset. Not sure it was worth it though.

I guess from now on I'll only add contacts into my Gmail to sync... and not anything else.

I'm glad you got it resolved and I hope you didn't lose anything you can't recover by other means. When I make changes to my contact list as soon as I'm doing I re-sync manually.

This has happened to me twice. The first time, I got a replacement from Verizon.

The second time, I refused to deal with being without a phone for 3 days as it is necessary for my work.

Mine had gotten to where it would not even try to turn on without the charger, and even then never got past the boot up screen. I left it on the charger and pulled the battery. Let the phone go off again, then disconnected the charger and removed the SD card. Next, plug the charger back in and attempt to boot the phone. It shouldn't get too far without coming up with an error about not having an SD card in the phone. After this, I put the SD card and battery back in, and booted it up without the charger.

I actually just lost all of my contacts, about 14 hours after I installed the update. As I freaked out and started trying to import contacts from the SD card (to no avail) and rebooting the phone, I finally just let it sit because I was too busy with work to keep messing with it. About 15 minutes later, it was perfectly fine and reloaded everything.

This got mine back up and running, without losing any apps or contacts. Hope it works for you.

I did the update and LOVE the new voice to text feature. It went quick and smooth...no glitches yet as I have been voicing my texts to my friends and LOVE IT...Way to go DROID ...texting has never been easier; however I lost the comma key on my keyboard, but I rather have the voice option

Lost your comma? Really? Like, any comma in any app? Yikes. Why don't they just remove the vowels and save a lot of keyboard space.

In process of updating right now. Hoping commas are intact.

Sorry to hear that people are having problems with their updates. Always do a backup before a firmware update.

This is the reason I pay for an Exchange account. It doesn't matter if my phone crashes or my computer dies; everything will just re-sync and I'm good to go. I never have to worry about doing a backup either. I love it!

It's great that Google has a sync on their account stuff as well, I bet it will save a lot of people.

i had this exact same problem, but i got my phone from Best Buy and got the black tie service so i imediately took it there to make them work for the money i've been sending them. they factory reset my phone (but lost all my aps) and gave me a new battery (not sure why, but i took it ;P) and said the update had been successfully implemented on my phone. i took it home, put on a live wallpaper, went to a web page and pinch-zoomed for an hour :) and then went on line to see what else my new update could do. apparently i am supposed to have 5 home screens instead of 2 with thumbnail switching and a new app launcher. i do not, however. i am wondering if i only got a part of the update and if there is any way i can re-update to reap the full benefits of 2.1.
anyone else had this problem? or have any insight?
