I live in Canada.
Is the GPS in Galaxy Nexus good without no data connection (similar to a standalone GPS device)?
Do I run Navfree?

If you have a WiFi connection, you can download Google Maps which has a built-in Nav program.

You can now use Google Maps to download maps for offline use. There is a size limit, so for long trips, you may need to download several maps. Turn on the GPS and the NAV program and you should be good to go.

I have yet to try this, but I assume it should work.

It doesn't. :-( you have to have a connection when you turn on the nav program. Once it calculates the directions you can turn off data or move away from wifi. I'm traveling in Canada and have been very frustrated.

You could get use a GPS status app to find your coordinates and use a plain ol paper map to find your exact location.

You know, like its the 90's!
